A great game that's unfortunately marred by technical issues.

Good find none-the-less.

HEAT - just looks like a fab game to me, will never find time for playing it though. Did it make the short list on the *cough* Selected *cough* Games Of The Year Awards?

Nah, it was 8 years too late, unfortunately :(

Think the only trouble with this game was we waited so long for it to be released that when it finally did come out it was like meh its out then iv waited 10 years to play it i can wait a little longer

Stone-cold masterpiece. I think it'll be more widely recognised as being a classic as time passes.

Played it for couple of hours then traded it in.

if people liked Ico and Shadow they'd probably still like this. Could me a couple of hours to get into it and start enjoying it though.

Grabbed it for £18 on Christmas Eve from Amazon. Enjoyed it for a few hours, it was charming and a pretty game in spite of it's ropey performance, but it quickly started to grate on me when Trico was just ignoring my commands. Sold it for £32 to CEX :{

It was EDGE's game of the year. I finished playing it through at the weekend. I started playing it through again a second time straight after to go for the platinum. It's an outstanding achievement that you may only recognise if games are more to you than just:

Buy PlayStation > Load Call of Duty > Play For An Hour > Go To Pub

..and instead are a passion where you truly know what they're capable of. You'll feel genuine attachment to Trico. Plus there's a moment of storytelling towards the end which is so subtle, and lasts for only a few seconds, but it really is quite dark and changes how you view a lot of what you've been doing throughout the game.

The minor technical issues don't matter. If you loved ICO (which I did) then buy this. You absolutely won't regret it.

I must have missed this... Mind telling me what it was via PM (so as to avoid spoiling it for those who get upset by spoilers)?

If zelda will finally justify my Wii U purchase, this game justified my purchase of a PS4. If only they did a re-remaster of Ico/SOTC!

Absolutely loved it, even the missus enjoyed watching and really connected with Trico. Regardless of any (minor) faults, in my eyes it's a masterpiece and what real gaming should be about (one off, unique experiences).

You can play Ico/SotC HD via PS Now. Just use the 14 day trial. That's how I played SotC. Took some getting used to having never played Ico, but ended up loving it. I imagine back in the day it was an incredible experience. It played very nicely via the interwebs too!

Fair play. Just finished FFXV myself and really enjoyed it, was my first experience of a FF game. Pre ordered Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 with hope to play 3 at some point this year and am already excited about the FFVII remake. :D

What a load of condescending bull****. You just come across as someone who has the superiority complex the thickness of a rope. I love gaming, I don't like CoD, in fact, other than BL2, I simply dislike FPS and dislike some of the other mainstream games you no doubt look down on others for playing. Doesn't mean I'm better than those who do. Just seems some people who happen to like niche games or games that they force themselves to like, do so because it's the interweb hipster thing to do and it affords them an opportunity to tell others how much better they are than the rest of us.

I'm sure you dislike other games that people consider highly underrated. Does that mean those that do like them are better than you? Does that mean you too are the very thing you're attempting to make out you're not? No, it just means we all enjoy different games and if someone enjoys CoD over TLG, then so be it.

My main staples are RPG's, games such as Civ, Xcom etc, yet I thought TLG was a chore after a couple or so hours. I suppose I'm beneath you too.

Blimey took that a bit personally didn't you? He stated "It's an outstanding achievement that you may only recognise if games are more to you than just:

You don't seem to fall into this category, but I'm sure we all know someone that does. So it's funny you are so offended.

No game ever released fully appeals to 100% of gamers, regardless of gaming preferences, that's just the way it is.

Dr_Bawbag... I can only assume that you're having bad day, because I don't think Schnide meant any offense.

I ran into my first issue with Trico not listening to my commands a couple of days ago... turns out he had a spear stuck in his side and wouldn't go anywhere until it was removed. He did it again a while later - he was hungry, after eating a barrel he was right as rain. Made me wonder whether that's kind of what's supposed to happen, and a number of reviewers just missed it?

No, that's what's supposed to happen. Trico represents all the joys and frustration of owning a real pet.

There are a number of guides out there on understanding Trico's behaviour, they are definitely worth reading and will save you some frustration.

It's a slow burner, probably not for those who like a quick 10 minute play of any game. Personally I loved it, enough Ico (one of my favourite games of all time) influence to keep me happy, this would be my game of the year, but I appreciate it's not for everyone.

I bought ICO on the PS2 when it first came kit and got bored of it after about an hour. It was a fairly depressing affair to be honest.

Should I bother with TLG? It does look impressive and I enjoy a simple puzzle now and then.
Is there much story telling involved or is it a case of the boy and trico escaping the dungeon or whatever they're in?

Based on your experience with ICO, perhaps not. Either you didn't give it long enough or it just wouldn't ever have been immediate enough for you.

It's not necessarily fair to say that all of TLG's puzzles are simple. Sometimes they are, but that doesn't necessarily make them easy. You are always, essentially, trying to progress from one room to the next and the basic storytelling is there, but it's sometimes abstract too.

In short, it's not an easy ride - but you'll feel rewarded if you make it to the end.

It's pretty clear that you didn't understand much of anything I actually said. And your "main staples" prove that I wasn't even ever talking about you in the first place. I wasn't even being denigrating about the people who I was talking about. This is, I think, the first time we've ever communicated on here and it's a shame that you chose to do so like this. It's not a great first impression and whatever is upsetting you today, firing off at strangers isn't the healthiest way to deal with it.

I loved Ico and shadow of the collosus (they're both amongst a handful of games I've played through more than once) so I've ordered this! Thanks to the OP for the spot
#35
Got seriously annoyed with the game controls to start with but carried on as I was a massive Ico fan and wanted to see how it would pan out. It does have its issues but it also makes you smile particularly if you are an animal lover. The animation of the DogCatBird thing is spot on and makes me smile a lot :)
#36
I played it for a few hours and thought it was something different and couldn't quite decide if it was a good different or bad different. I've not traded it in just yet though, so I'm prepared to give it a few more hours.

currently £25 instore new / £24 preowned in grainger anyway, hoping to grab the launch edition (with the sleeve) myself as they usually price those the same but didn't have that when i checked yesterday.

Some cool set pieces but in general thought the game was pretty garbage. Horrid controls, camera and frame rate unless your playing on Ps4 Pro in 1080p mode.

Crikey Dr Bawbag, that's a little over-sensitive and harsh don't you think? I really don't think that was schnide's intention at all. He was just expressing a passion for gaming, in contrast to more casual players. Its always a bit jarring when someone responds with hostility and negativity that is much worse than the thing they have reacted to. Do you not see that you've done the exact thing you were accusing schnide of?
