I think the Very deal at £180 after credit back is good.
Very is not very popular on here, regardless of how cheap something is.

I think? EU regulations state these have 2 years anyway so do JL bump it up to 4?

I'm not been that guy but for £3 extra then Dying Light EE, Lego Star Wars is worth the extra.

You may want to read the EU regulations if you want to use that. There are literally so many clauses that you will never be able to get that warranty in the UK.

So John Lewis does an amazing job in at least giving an year extra on top of the year provided by Sony.

EU offers 2 year warranty. Fact.

1 year of that from Shopto is collect and replace. (Which is better than Sony's 1 year)

DJ Cue was fast enough to like your comment but didn't reply to mine. John Lewis 2 year in every title is a sales pitch on these items. When you are playing with other peoples money my comments are harmless.

I am not trying to argue with you! You post good deals, I am just asking about the 2 year EU warranty as my brother spend 4 months trying to get Apple to sort out his iPhone under the 2 year EU warranty. They eventually sorted out the issue but said they were doing it as he was a good customer and not because of the warranty.

Quote sale of goods act and the trimmings and I'm yet to find a retailer that won't replace/refund past what the EU says/manufacturers warranty.

PS3 Comet replaced up to 3 years despite doing only saying they would do 2 if you did not mention consumer law in your conversation. Mention this stuff and the conversation immediately changes. Pay on credit card for all of these and you can ask your credit card company to refund and go after the retailer.
Amazon replaced my iPod after 2 years for a new one. Currys have recently done the same (They went 3 years under sale of goods act for new iPods).

Sony's warranty isn't the worth the paper its printed on. One of my PS4 controllers broke and I was asked by Amazon to pursue it with the manufacturer. I waited on the phone in a queue for over 45 minutes when I called Sony before I was cut off. Fortunately Amazon took care of it but if it had been most retailers then I would have been SoL.

The Coop deal earlier got slated (I guess because it was OOS) but it is now showing in stock:

Sony PlayStation 4 Slim 1TB Console in Black & Fifa 17 & Dualshock 4 V2 Controller in Black - £289.99. Add an HDMI cable to take it over £300 and use CP30 to bring it down to £274.99 + £4.99 delivery.

Seems a pretty solid deal as you could sell the the controller for c. £40 and the game for £25 ish?

Whilst the so-called 'EU 2 year warranty' does exist, it is largely inconsequential if the transaction took place in England & Wales. The limitation period for a simple (i.e. not a specialty) contract is 6 years. Therefore, in theory, you can sue for breach of contract (which in a sales contract would likely be for a breach of the implied term of fitness for purpose / satisfactory quality / adherence to description) up until that time. The 'EU 2 year warranty' is therefore displaced by superior domestic consumer rights legislation under the CRA 2015 anyway. However, it is important to note that statutory rights (and I am simplifying things greatly here) relate to defects that have arisen at the time of delivery. Defects that arise after delivery are not covered (save for where it occurs within 6 months of delivery, and a presumption of defect arises in favour of the consumer).

In summary, it's a lot more complicated than claiming 'all retailer/manufacturer warranties are a waste of time due to EU/domestic law', though you may indeed have some luck in blinding certain retailers with science. Further, although the 6 year limitation period exists a court would have to weigh various factors including the price, age, and usage of the thing complained of (e.g. don't expect to recover for a 5.5year old washing machine that cost you £99).

EU offers 2 year warranty. Fact.

Fact: The EU directive 1999/44/EC was not fully implemented into UK law, only certain parts of it.

Every time someone brings up the "2 Year EU Warranty" it just confuses matters significantly. It has no relation on the ability for someone to claim in the UK, as our own laws are stronger.

Not only that, but people normally think that the "2 year warranty" means that if anything goes wrong, they're entitled to a replacement / refund. This isn't even true for a country that has implemented the 1999/44/EC, as it specifically doesn't include wear and tear.

xeroc has covered it really well.

The CRA is more complex than you're giving credit for, and the 'EU 2 year warranty' phrase has caused mass confusion.

It's regulation vs directives.

A directive is basically 'You need to achieve this, but we're not going to dictate how' - it is left to national 'local' law to decide how to do it.
A regulation is a legal act, that must be met in the way it's laid out (generally speaking).

UK Warranty somewhat works like this:
Up to:
14 days - Generally if you change your mind, you can get a full refund.
30 days - If goods are faulty - you can get a refund.
6 months - If product cant be replaced of repaired then in most cases, a full refund.
6 years - If your goods do not last a reasonable length of time, then you may get some money back.

There's obviously going to be some slight stipulations in the above, but that's the general guidelines.

John Lewis warranty is actually better than sonys, my tv broke after 3 year and they just swapped it the same day. There amazing.

Sony were fantastic with me replacing my faulty ps4.

I think the Very deal at £180 after credit back is good.

The cash back deal ended on 3/11/16.

Guys, lets stop fighting over the warranty.

For ease, i have tried to put all our fellow HUKD members into two category:

Those who can argue with retailers, if needed and are ready to go to court for claiming warranty, need not go for this deal and go for the cheaper options if any available.

Those who want to avoid all the hassle and just go to our very own John Lewis Customer Service in the back of the hundreds of stores and get the item replaced conveniently without breaking a sweat, get this deal :)

Peace and HOT :)

Don't John Lewis also offer their 'never knowingly undersold' guarantee for 28 days AFTER purchase too? So potentially if better deals come out during Black Friday etc, you could get the difference back as a refund?
It won't include sales or black friday sales!

it does include sales and black Friday
