Being retold in Kiwami is the nascent character arc for Yakuza - the game begins with series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu getting sent to prison for the murder of his family patriarch (which he didn't commit). To make matters worse, during the 10 years of his imprisonment, not only does Kiryu's clan expel him from the yakuza, but ¥10 billion (~$100 million) goes missing from the clan treasury. Worse yet, Kiryu's childhood sweetheart is also nowhere to be found, and with the entirety of the Japanese underworld on the hunt for the missing cash, Kiryu is all but lost until he finds the orphan girl Haruka, searching for her aunt who shares the same name as Kiryu's missing love. What follows from there is a web of betrayal, underworld politics, and redemption as nothing will stop Kiryu from regaining his honor.

Yakuza Kiwami Features:

A Family Patriarch's Ransom of New Content - "Kiwami" literally translates to "extreme," and the game was named that for good reason. Not just a simple graphical upgrade, Kiwami adds nearly 30 minutes of cutscenes alone, providing all-new insight into the game's plot and creating common threads with series prequel Yakuza 0. There's also added distractions (Pocket Circuit car racing, MesuKing: Battle Bug Beauties, new hostesses, and more), side quests, combat updates, re-recorded Japanese dialogue, and more to bring the original Yakuza game into the latest console generation.

A Place for Newcomers and Veterans - Yakuza Kiwami is the ultimate bridge in the series: newcomers or those whose Yakuza experience started with Yakuza 0 will have familiar, exacting controls, top-notch SEGA localization, and a solid starting point for entering the Yakuza franchise fresh. Veterans will experience a familiar Kamurocho and plot, but with new levels of story depth and graphical polish.

But it was me! Majima! - Completely new to Kiwami is the "Majima Everywhere" system, where the series' deranged, one-eyed maniac will constantly surprise and challenge Kiryu to combat when he least expects it. We're talking "popping out of a goofy costume" levels of surprise, so players must stay on their toes and be ready to defend themselves from Kiryu's chief rival.

Extreme Revitalization - Kiwami is rebuilt from the ground up with all new HD assets, exclusive Japanese voice audio re-recorded by the series cast, and more; optimized for the PlayStation 4 and running in 1080p/60fps. And following suit with SEGA's commitment to the Yakuza series, the game will release in both physical and digital formats in the west.

Might cancel my ShopTo order, this is a good price and Base have done me well in the past. Can't believe they're actually releasing these games now, really hope they bring Ishin over to the west as well.

Thanks, I started with no.3 years ago as only one available to us then. Since got 4 for free on PS+ and I must say I am loving it! From what I hear from 0 is it's incredible so if they just keep getting better and better then I am in for a treat!

Yakuza 4 is freakin' brilliant. Each of the four protagonists was really interesting in his own way, and often not how they appeared on the surface (heartless loan shark, mass murdering convict, crooked cop). I recently finished it and moved straight onto Dead Souls, which is technically rubbish, but oddly endearing.

I've only just started 4 so not too far into it but it seems incredible so far. I've really taken to the main character lol. It's odd how nice and laid back he is yet he lends people money and on weird terms haha. I find myself most intrigued!

I keep stressing though, how big the games are haha. Will I ever catch up. I loved 3 but for some reason something in 4 feels better. I don't know if it's slight improvements or what as it's been too long since I played 3 to remember the differences but something about it feels so fresh and fluid. Gonna have to buy them all at some point.

Ohhh just googled it, if I don't be a completionist then main stories are not too long. Not bad then lol

Yeah, if you just blast through the main story it shouldn't take too long. I think each character has 15 substories (60 in all!), but a huge chunk of the game is completely optional, like training hostesses, for example, or fishing, playing golf, bowling, pachinko... I confess to getting sidetracked training fighters for hours though; that's a really cool - and oftentimes funny - distraction if you come across it. Likewise, the superhero fuelled by curry, haha X) I almost felt guilty moving on from 4 so quickly (there's a nice section near the end where you can basically switch between the four characters at will and mop up substories), but I needs to finish Dead Souls, 5, 0...

haha yeh it's got some funny bits in it. Just finished chapter 1 and now onto the next guy in the story. Was about to come off for the night and decided I have to at least have a look at the next chapter...WOW lol 40 mins later...Damn lol, I got unlucky there and got tons of story bits lol. Got to say this game is incredible! That's it I am buying them all now!

I think I will order 0 soon and go from there. I don't think that ones going to drop in price too much more and even if it does, so what. It's worth around £25 - £30 easily! and I think it can be got for that if the deals still on now

I've never played the game but I have a copy of Yakuza 3 on ps3 somewhere!

Kiwami is the remake of Yakuza 1 (which was released on PS2).
Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the series and set in 80s.

Yakuza 1 (PS2)
Yakuza 2 (PS2)
Yakuza 3 (PS3)
Yakuza 4 (PS3)
Yakuza Dead Souls (PS3) (avoid this one! spin off zombie themed game, and no good!)
Yakuza 5 (PS3)

Yakuza 0 (PS4)
Yakuza Kiwami (PS4) (Remake of Yakuza 1)
Yakuza 6 (PS4) (already released in Japan,International version to be released in 2018)

I hope they remake Yakuza 2, my favourite in the series.

Avoid Dead Souls? Have you lost your mind? :p

This review seems pretty spot on:

"Yakuza: Dead Souls isn’t going to bring in any new blood to the Yakuza series, but for its existing fans, it provides an interesting story and gameplay elements that haven’t been explored previously. Combat against the common zombies gets old fast, but there are some great boss battles to balance it out. As a huge Yakuza fan myself, I somewhat enjoyed the game, but wish there would have been a little better pacing and more chances to explore."

well it's not on par with other Yakuza games, the controls specially were terrible..I always say to people to avoid it because if they haven't played other Yakuza games it will be a terrible representation of the franchise!
otherwise, it's probably not too bad.
personally I love the series to death and played them all (except 1&2) but Dead Souls was just so difficult to control, lso the concept is so "out of place".

I never played 1 & 2 as they were on PS2 and I didn't play too much PS2 at the time, but as a big fan of Shenmue series on Dreamcast,I immediately fell in love with Yakuza 3 on PS3,I still think it was the best among the ones I played, it had some video clips explaining the events of 1 & 2 I think..

I played and beat 4 as well and then sold my PS3 sometime after PS4 was released and settled, so when they released Yakuza 5 on PS3 (last year?) I knew I had to play it..so I re-bought a PS3 just to play that game and it was digital only, so payed full price £35..and loved every second of it, worth every single penny such a long game but never felt boring or repetitive.
I haven't played Yakuza Zero yet but there is no question I will buy Zero,Kiwami and 6.
one of the best game series ever.
so good.

Absolutely. If I wasn't already invested in the series, I'm not sure I would've persevered. That said, I managed to make it through Deadly Premonition oO

Also, I just laughed out loud at a cutscene where Majima (love the crazy *******) asks his boss, Daigo, to play a woman. "Your hair's gettin' pretty long" X)

0 is a prequel but effectively a completely new game and the setting is 80's Japan..
whereas 1 is obviously the real start of the game..
since Kiwami is still 4 months to be released anyway ,I'd start with 0.
personally I think each of the games is so deep and detailed story and gameplay wise that you won't necessarily need to be that OCD about the order too much.
