Welcome to HUKD bargain_hunter1 :)

Pls try to include retailers name in the title

Yeah sorry 1st post...too keen :)

Is it worth it for queuing up for ten minutes like I had to earlier today. One checkout staff for 50 people, with other people standing around not doing anything.

454gms

I just find it amusing the way retailers stick with 454gms (8oz), when 500gms is the obvious size to go with.

They are all to happy to use litres instead of pint/ fluid oz equivalents.

Agree. Thats quite normal for Aldi and Lidl.

sorry voted cold as asdas are the same price and taste so much nicer and keep longer
#11
cause they dont add anything to them to make them last forever like other supermarkets
#12
nice deal, but UK strawberries are officially now tasteless junk. the only thing in their favour is that they look good. grumpy strawberry man.
#13
LMAO I don't know where in the UK you buy your strawberries from or perhaps your tastebuds are defective but we have a farm up the road we buy from we had 18lb of Strawberries and 5lb of Raspberries (job lot for £50) from there recently for our wedding and they were amazingly tasty so much so we've been back up there several times since for more of them so UK strawberries are NOT officially tasteless junk, get your facts straight first eh?

.....so UK strawberries are NOT officially tasteless junk.....

The ones sold in supermarkets are generally pretty awful in my experience - particularly the dreaded Elsanta.

Agree without any reservation.

Unfortunately most people under about 50 don't seem to remember the varieties that USED to be sold, for the very short season that they had, (and would probably be pretty much running to a close by now!) so they don't even have a reference point to judge from!
Even the plant wholesalers don't seem to stock old varieties, and are selling the commercial ones to home growers too :-(

I'd agree, if the majority of people were as lucky as you to have a farm up the road. The problem is that the crap ones that are grown in poly-tunnels don't make it down the bumpy road past your idyllic rural bolt hole to the cities, where we are subjected to what the rest of the moronic British public wants: food that looks good and ... er... that's it. Taste seems to have been forgotten by the British public, unfortunately. If people stopped buying with their eyes and buying with their tastebuds, the supermarkets would have to change.
So, I do have my facts straight "eh", my taste buds are very effective. I just wish everyone else's were.

Furthermore, I bet your lovely strawberries weren't grown to last on the shelves for two weeks. Everywhere else in Europe, they have a short season and a short shelf life. They SHOULD be going mushy after 1/2 days - that means they taste good. You shouldn't be able to play badminton with them. I'll step down now - I need to douse my tastebuds with tabasco - they're feeling way too effective today, "eh".
