It's ok for the money, however, opening deals used to be £9.99. The problem with Puregym, compared with the very similarly equipped Thegymgroup, is that Puregym only has one of every type of machine, so you are left waiting, particularly during the busy periods, which at my branch is 5-8.30pm, when it is heaving. The ratio of cardio machines to weights is imbalanced in favour of the former imho.

Expect a lot of clueless, bored looking beginners who do not know how to use the machines and end up breaking them. Our local branch had to replace all of the dumbbells for crappy all-in-one mouldings, as the attention seekers, who dropped them constantly, broke the welded joints. One particularly tiresome girl continually bashes the very low weights on the abdominal twister machine, while only moving her arms, oblivious of all the WTF stares she is getting and missing the point of the excercise. None of the staff on hand has ever bothered to go across and tell her off, despite the 'out of order' notices clearly on display on a couple of the nearby machines.

Another problem is the turnstile entry. If you are 'generously proportioned' you will provide a minute of entertainment for everyone behind you as you struggle to get through. If you have to manoeuvre a sports bag with you, too, then forget it. These also seem to malfunction regularly.

Not a gym for the serious bodybuilder, as the weights only go up so far, but otherwise stonking value compared with the likes of the usual chain gyms.

lol great post spraint
I like the concept of pure gym but the execution is **** poor.
Why do gyms have a joining fee, by the way? Who thought that was a good idea

With that location it will be packed with students, also very limited parking....you get what you pay for...not for me

good price however if you are on a limited budget ,know your way around a gym and work in City Centre and don't have a car as well within walking distance from the train station

Its worth joining just for the entertainment value. The cheap membership attracts some real 'characters'. I often see strange people working out in trousers and a shirt, Ive even seen a guy in a leather jacket!
city centre+cheap price= frickin weirdos.

Good location, great price but unfortunately will attract a lot of wierdos, drunks, and students. It's either this or pay the likes of virgin £50 a month

people have been giving me leaflets for this gym, dont really think its worth it cos no swimming pool spa or fitness classes, think you're better off joining ponds forge for £24 a month plus you can use the 3 other locations
