Pure Highway In car DAB adapter with FM transmitter. Have been looking at these a while now - shows as £74.95 online for John Lewis, in store at Kingston they had a whole shelf load of Pure radios of different kinds - on the shelf it said £39.95, but on the box it said £19.95. At the till it came up as 39.95, but they altered it and put it through at 19.95. The shelf description said that the items might be slightly marked, and the box says UK - B Stock Tested and Passed Inspection. My unit looks brand new with no marks. Have included photo with pricing shown on box. They had about 8 on the shelf in Kingston, hopefully they have some near you. Go easy - this is my first post!

Updated price as seems only Kingston selling at 19.95.

At this price I highly recommend it. I have one in my car and get great reception. The FM transmitter works really well. I chose this as my car's aerial is really ropey and standard FM broadcasts are awful. I do use it with an external DAB aerial I had from my old Revo dab that died however.

Excellent for £20.

it will be a real bargian if you get on this price.
#3
I have one of these - dash festooned with all sorts of wires, but granted it works fairly well !
#4
Great price for this peice of kit that I've had since launch.
The mount broke and so did the scrolling display but Pure were great and once I sent the damaged unit back and they just sent me a brand new set of everything along with refunding the postage!
#5
Do these have an auxiliary output for connection directly to the existing car head unit?
#6
I want one at that price but not near JL unfortunately. Great deal if you can find one.

This device is good (I have one in car), FM Transmitter&DAB, but to listen you need the USB power lead in and also the ariel, so a few wires. Also, if you want to add an IPOD/phone input or similar you have to pysically connect the lead before it works. (Basically you can't have you Ipod plugged into the device and then switch from DAB back to IPOD/phone input without actually pulling out the input jack lead(rather annoying)

I think the technology in this unit is rather old, reception is only good with an external ariel or with the included arieal streched out from one end of car to the other.

I also have a Logik LPDAB10 DAB Pocket Radio DAB/FM Radio linked here too (30 for two dabs) see link

AND for a tiny DAB pocket radio the reception is amazing, and only with headphones connected. If you have a AUX input on the car sterio should work fine, else I am sure there must be a way to connect an external arial to it, though I think it only runs on 2x aaa batts. (no FM Transmiiter though).

But for 20quid I'd jump in for a spare, pitty no JL nearby.

Yes this does have an aux out (and aux in), and you can use it as an FM transmitter if you do not have the aux in on your head unit. I have used the Aux in on my Ford S-Max and it works fine.

Great price for an awesome digital radio
#10
If anyone can buy and send me one I'll pay them £40 for it
#11
PS The barcode is 823 20502 if you want to check stock at a JL
#12
Check the JL site and the barcode is actually 823 20501

That might be for the standard unit - the one I got is a refurb - so maybe different code & price ;-)

Another non existent deal. Cold

£79.99 in Swindon.. Here now!!
#16
Ok the right code for the product is 82320502, it was wrongly priced in Kingston. In High Wycombe it is now showing 200 in central warehouse. Call your local store and reserve one if you want. It is priced as £39.95, Kingston was just an error.

I'll check Cambridge in the AM and report back....

Great price for a great piece of kit. I've had one for about 20 months. I keep mine in my centre console/arm rest and have it connected to the aux-in there and with a roof top external aerial and get great reception. Only really got it for BBC6 Music TBH.
#19
Cold from me, because out of the box it's not much use. DAB reception is rubbish and every time I tuned in the FM transmitter it got overridden by some local or national station.

Perhaps, if you go to the expense of buying a proper roof mounted aerial, it might be okay as ^ have said, but with just the windscreen aerial it's so hit and miss it's not worth having. Took mine back to Argos citing faulty.

Really wanted this to be good ... highly disappointed, as it's expensive enough as it is without having to shell out for dedicated aerials.

Sorry, hot price, ice cold product for me.

Typical, being my local too! Which one? The Outlet one, or the new Home one?

Definitely a great price. Practically it looks like a nightmare, having to set it up everytime you get in and out of the car, as I'm assuming some one would break in the car to steal it if was setup permanently in the car. I'd tried a portable DAB radio in my current car a few years ago, and it was hopeless. I was interested in this unit but £70+ at the time was a joke. Still not sure I could buy one due the seemingly impractical nature of the device.

I have the nightmare radio in the Golf MKV, well I have an 04 reg one and they decided not to put an aerial on the 2004 model so the AM reception is rubbish for R5 Live. It's currently got a lot worse so much so that I can't listen to AM stations, the dealer just shrugs and says yeah the reception is rubbish so live with it. It doesn't have an AUX input either, I might just smash it in frustration. Anyway the point to this minor rant is I wish there was a cheap way of sorting it out and this deal looked good, doubt I could live with the cumbersome installation though.

If anyone lives local and wants to improve their Karma I'd happily postage and fuel :D
#27
It is very good, think of it as a USB powered DAB radio

If it is £19.95 in a John Lewis store then they should be able to price match it very easily. They have done for me in the past anyway.

I rang both Liverpool and Trafford, they checked Kingston and said it was £79 there as well, I think the OP got lucky on some B grade stock

John Lewis Cheadle £79.99, save your petrol!
#31
I have one, don't use it much as when you drive around other radio stations mess the reception up so you have to re-tune it, which isn't easy to on the move.

Plus John Lewis reductions are store specific as well, cold from me

so why as this post got so hot on one persons say so,wish members would check deals out before voting

I've had one for over a year no, and paid £40.00 off flea bay for a recon one, so a good price if you can get one! Pros - good range of stations if you can keep a good constant digital signal (it has got better over the last year), Cons - you need a few wires in your car to get it powered, and connected to your in built car stereo.
#35
Why are virtually all DAB radios mono? I thought the point was to ensure better audio quality. Yet we seem to have gone back to the 70s by abandoning stereo.
#36
try morgancomputers.co.uk where grade A refurbished Highways are £39.99 + £3.99 delivery, in stock with 3 months warranty
#37
Agree.

I paid £70 for it 18 months ago approx and sooo wanted it to be good but everywhere I read says that you really do need to buy the external aerial. and I'm not sure I want to do that. Shame

You can pick the aerials up from Ebay for under £15 and they're very easy to live with. I have the window wound up fully that the cable goes through and you can hardly see any cables.

I've never had anything less than perfect DAB reception all over the country with my aerial, so it's well worth it.

More car clutter with cables everwhere, etc. It's about time every car came with DAB in preparation for the planned analogue switchoff. People are still buying cars which, theoretically, will have an obsolete radio well within the car's lifetime. Even then my car's factory DAB finds dead spots too often (I've reverted to FM use).

Yes, this device can provide a work around for now but it's not the proper answer is it?
