From the world leaders in DAB comes a DAB and FM portable radio that looks good, sounds great and is unbelievably easy to use. With its stylish exterior, chrome controls, and great audio performance, ONE looks and sounds fantastic, wherever you listen.
If you havent experienced DAB yet, youre in for a treat: station selection by name, scrolling text display, all stations tuned-in at the touch of a button and crisp, clear, digital sound. And theres more listening choice too; in many areas up to twice as many stations are available on DAB as are available on FM.
ONE is a truly portable DAB radio. ChargePAK ready as standard, ONE also offers class-leading battery life, with around 35 hours of DAB listening from six standard C size batteries.
In addition to DAB usability, station choice and sound quality, ONE also features FM with RDS for areas where DAB is currently unavailable. Not to mention a host of other features including Intellitext®, textSCAN, kitchen and sleep timers, a backlit display and USB upgradeability.
All the benefits of DAB
More station choice, station selection by name, scrolling text display, easy autotune, and crisp, clear sound.
Portability
Around 20 hours of portable DAB listening from the optional, rechargeable ChargePAK-C6X; around 35 hours from six C size batteries; or connect to the mains for home listening.
Ease of Use & Style
Weve used our expertise as world leaders in DAB to produce a radio that not only sounds great but is intuitive and easy to use too.
Grade B - factory refurbished, as new with new manuals, updated software, and reboxed (1yr warranty)

Pure are, IMHO, the best in the DAB market - I have one of their earliest models, the Pure Evoke 1; it's fantastic, only drawback is that it's mains powered only. This portable is ace!

Heat and rep left! :)

I got this from John Lewis for £30 with a £20 off voucher about a year ago, and concur it's a great set.

WOW this looks great value for under £30.

We have a DAB radio at work and it's great. I'm really tempted as I would love to have a non crackly radio at home too :-)
#7
Am i missing something , it only has one speaker so how can you get stereo ?
#8
They've also got another Pure for same price which has two speakers:

you don't.

don't tell anyone, but the quality of DAB is *LOWER* than FM.

You buy DAB for loads of stations, not for hifi stereo sound

Hmmmmm.....................

If the DAB you're comparing is delivering inferior quality sound to an FM radio, either the DAB is faulty - or your ears are ! :whistling:

No offence meant - honest!

er no, it's the truth. The bitrates on DAB stations are pathetically low. 128kbit MP2 - that's a lot worse than 128kbit MP3 (which is FAR from hi-fi quality).

So if you think DAB sounds good you must also like listening to mp3s downloaded off kazaa through £2.99 headphones.....

... think I'll keep out of the DAB / FM debate - does anyone know if the chargepack is supplied within the price, one bit of the advert says it's standard but looking at some reviews elsewhere they mention it as an optional extra ??? thanks.

The advert actually says 'ChargePAK™ ready as standard'. I got one of these from Boots and it did not come with the chargepak. It's a good radio though.

We can certainly say that DAB sound is inferior to Freeview's radio sound; with FM the broadcast quality is considerably better than DAB but what you actually hear depends much more on aerial and receiver quality. In a relatively cheap portable, DAB has advantages.

And with a portable there's not much point in 2-speaker stereo, unless you're prepared to move a loose speaker some few feet from its mate. The blurb at Pure does say
Users can also listen to ONE through their hi-fi or headphones via the stereo output connection.

Looks hot to me.

good deal for the Pure One. Does it come with a mains adaptor as standard?
#16
Yes - mains adaptor is standard - I got mine for £30 with the £20 voucher from John Lewis. A superb radio - I prefer to listen to speech and whilst its a personal opinion I prefer DAB when I listen to the same stations as FM.

Unless corrected, the £20 JL voucher was from last year.

I have one of these Pure DAB in white, and more than happy with it on camping trips. Worth spending the extra on a rechargeable battery pack if intending plenty of use. I got one from John Lewis using a couple of easily found discount codes.

Great little radio, voted hot, but got mine last year in Boots for £29.99, brand new not refurbished!:p

Do you think it is included with the radio, or just an optional extra?

Hello from a Forum Newbie on here ....
ChargePaks are optional extras - unless you have the Pure Oasis like mine - which is one of the few models that do. I paid £125 new for that about a year ago - so £25 for a lesser model - but which has the Intellitext feature (unlike the Oasis) is a veritable snip. The other good deal was The Bug - I bought two last night .. now there's none left. The other superdeal is the Evoke 2XT for £55. I nearly had one of those last year ... for £150 - no brainer then. And there is a difference in these radios. I also have a cheapo XFM DAB/SD Card Player and even though I bought it for next to nowt - its reception is next to useless. No matter what price you may or may not have paid - if it dont pick up - you might as well not bother. PURE cost more for a reason. Anyway!. Folks on here are presuming the PURE ONEs are refurbished?. Well - there must be an awful lorra returns then.Cos last night theyd over 500 of `em!. Methinks they are new. Anyone else had one yet to confirm?. Cheers aye! Bruce :prop:

It is chargepak ready. What that means is that it is compatable to take the chargepak (though it does not come with it as standard) - i suppose its a bit like when you get a computer and they may say it is internet ready (in that the internet doesnt come with it!). Not all pure DABs are compatable (which may be a less confusing phrase to use) to the Chargepak.

I can thoroughly recommend the radio and the chargepak (it does make the radio much heavier tho!). I bought mine new for £34 (and raised this thread below) which in the first few posts has some reviews which you may wish to read if you are in any way undecided:thumbsup:

anyone if this plays AM aswell?
#26
I'd rather buy a Freeplay Devo personally. 6x 'C' batteries?
Hardly portable, and only really useful on the mains. Good deal though.

There is no AM - i think very few DAB radios both with AM as the main AM stations are available on DAB.

There is every point for a true stereo (2 speaker) DAB radio as they are available and in a compact design. The difference between having a separate left and right signal even when the speakers are close together are still significantly better sounding than one speaker is very noticeable and obvious to the vast majority of people.

that might be true, but for portables, not many people care about the sound quality and would happily pay £30 for a a Pure One ...

Mine has arrived...

Not played with it much but really liking it so far.

Would not mind getting a ChargePAK-C6X too but can't find one that does not cost more than the radio did!

Nice. Does it look refurbished or used in any way? And which courier do they use? Mine is due to arrive on Friday, but if the courier is Royal Mail then i doubt i will get it until Wednesday next week :(
#33
Mine arrive today - it came by city link and ebuyer emailed a tracking number when it was dispatched. the unit itself is unblemished - the only way you would know it is not "new" is that the power adapter power cord wasn't coiled up as you would normally see....nice!
#34
mine arrived this morning. My unit looks brand new. No scratches or signs of wear and tear and even the power adaptor was even coiled up as it was new .... In fact,. if the box didnt have a 'grade B' sticker on the front I wouldnt be able to tell it from new or second hand. Nice :)
