Good price.

Looks like it is mono though. Seems odd having the 21st centurey innovation of DAB but going back to the 1950's by not offering stereo.

Kind of like making a car with super new hi tek airbags but with no seatbelts.

Actually thats a good idea. Lots of peolpe don't like seatbelts. Surely there could be some way of mimicing their function with airbags.

Unless you're a big fat tub of lard, why would you 'not like' a seatbelt?

good quality speaker units combined with DAB broadcast are far better than cheap **** stereo speaker units on an fm broadcast.

I have the Sonus 1xt from pure (designed for blind / partially sighted, it has a very clear speech programming, it's mono, the quality simply shines through, plus the push pull design of a mono requires less energy, very important these days!

cabinet / chassis construction is just as important to the overallsound, but I digress!

Its an old people thing like drink driving. I've known lots of old people who refuse to wear seatbelts.

My sentiments exactly. I find it astounding that so many people are happy for mono. I'd disagree with the other opinion that expensive mono is worse than cheap stereo. It may be a crystal clear signal, but in most cases, mono aside, channels are broadcast at low bit rates. If mono is so good then why do Pure sell add on speakers to make many of their expensive units into [v expensive] stereo?

The same people will buy iPods too I guess, which also have inferior sound quality.

I have put comments like this before, but....

To actually perceive a difference between stereo and mono you need to have clear separation between the left/R speakers which is dependant on your listening position. For a small compact unit that is stereo you would need to have it about 30cm in front of your face (or directly behind) to get any sort of stereo affect. Also by putting two speakers in a small stereo unit and having dual amps and two speakers for the same costs of manufacturing you could have a higher quality mono amp and single speaker which can arguably give you a higher quality reproduction across frequencies albeit with the sacrifice of the stereo effect.

I have 3 DAB radios in my house, and I purposely got a mono unit as my bed side radio as when I am listening to that one I usually have one ear pressed against a pillow….

This is a great little unit and I mite expand my DAB fleet to 4, hot deal.

Do you really need the ChargePAK B1 (£24.99 from Pure!) to make this portable?
I'd love to have one for long boring truck journeys -- Anyone know of a way of powering the Mini from 12/24v?

For DAB radio in a truck, so long as it has an FM radio, you would be better off with one of these http://www.cdiscount.co.uk/SoundVisionandSatNav/DABAudioSystems/pure-highway-dab-fm/f-405-179062.html

Many thanks for the tip.
That's a lovely bit of kit and far more suitable for my needs.
Unfortunately, at twice the price, it's probably a little out of reach for this old skin(t)flint!
