Nice deal, if the centre was a little shorter I would have had one.
#2
if your a vip you can save an extra £20 on these
#3
good speakers but the wall brackets are discontinued so if you plan to mount on the wall it might be difficult to find some brackets to fit.
#4
Hmmmm...these or some 2nd hand kef eggs ?

Good spot btw...have some HEAT ;-)
#5
Depends on what eggs, but I would say these as you get a full warranty

Whilst the Kefs are good they are good for style speaker packages and aint gonna be able to compete with a more traditional speaker/size package for similar money:thumbsup:

Got so say these are really great sounding speakers for the money,

however they have a big negative in my opinion, they look bloody awful, especially when you go into a shop and compare them to the sleek black gloss kefs, and smartly designed jamo's. They are labelled 'black' trust me they aren't they are like a greyish colour.

I'm sure their will be people who say it doesnt matter what they look like you idiot, but if if you have smart living room, i wouldnt want to put 4 of these on the walls, unless I was aiming for a retro 80's look.

To sum up, excellent quality speakers for the blind, looking to dip their feet in 5.1 surround sound.

They are speakers mate, not lifestyle, two different things.
These will create a better sound than little speakers.

so you read my post well then,

my point - good sounding speakers but look at them in the flesh first. There are many better looking speakers that will produce the same sound, if this is an issue in purchasing. eg. The Jamo's on Richer sounds are 50 quid cheaper and create an incredible sound for the money.
#11
visually they dont have much 'WOW' factor . . .

I thought they are SPEAKERS not LOOKERS.
#13
speakers do not need to be unatractive and purley functional to be good but each to their own and I dont think anyone is advocating style over content. surley speakers/music are also a lifestyle choice ? some people dont care that much about top end and others spend all their money on such things.

any way nice spot.

I think you made some valid points  whats the point if were not going to get any criticism on electronics, especially given it looks black but its grey. I would want to know that!
#15
Way too fugly.. get KEF eggs instead
#16
I've got a set of these, great sound, and I personally like the look of them, especially with the 'covers' that come with them (not sure of the right word, the things you attach at the front to cover the actual speakers)

"Grills" :thumbsup:

I like the look of them too, I have a pair of the small 1010i satellites myself, which are waiting for me to buy a hi-fi to drive them with! ... A HUKD bargain purchase I couldn't resist lol They are really great robust quality cabinets and they look like a speaker should.

I bought these from amazon a few years ago for 50 pounds a pair , I ordered 2 because i wasn't sure if they came in pairs. The sound quality was so good I ordered another 2 boxes and now I have 8 of them, One pair is still unused and boxed but they are going in the kitchen soon with a spare Amp I have. Bought the subwoofer (monitor Audio) deal from a few weeks ago for 350 quid. These sound incredible in my cinema room. I love HOTUKDEALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed with this - if looks don't bother you then these are probably the best speakers in this price range by quite a way, but for me personally, I wouldn't want them in my living room so...

Had these for a over a year now and they sound amazing. At the time of buying there were a few diffrent speaker packages i was looking at around the £400-600 mark i sound tested around 7 diffrent sets and these sounded the best by a mile which is why i bought them. There is a new model now which look lovely and sound great but that defeats the object of this deal, which this is good one...
#24
do thjese include wall mount brackets? do thjey come with stands? if not how much extra are a pair of stands just for FL anf FR speaker? What is a front firing sub like, mine is a down firing sub, does it make much difference?

merci.
#25
Had these for a few weeks and thought they were good, other half didn't like the look so I traded them for the Soundware XS from Boston Acoustics available for about 30 more, much better in terms of both sound and looks
#26
Great set of speakers for the price, will stick with my jamo's though.

These sound far better than Jamo's. I have both.

I have a Diamond 9.1 package - much bigger than these but yet still look much better in my opinion. The 10.1s look even better still.

I completely see where forest2002 is coming from. Speakers can be big and also beautiful too. But for this money you can't expect both. Also, it's fair to warn they are this price because they have been replaced by a newer, better sounding range.

You won't get better 5.1 sound than these offer for the price and I'd be willing to sacrifice aesthetics if my budget was this limited but for others (especially those living with the other sex) it will matter. There are far from handsome speakers...

I recommended these to my friend when I gave him my old Pioneer receiver. I went over to watch a movie at his and they sounded great  He loves them and that was at £500.

If anyone is looking at their options I'd highly recommend checking out SuperFi. Probably the only place that can truly compete with RS on range and price, but without being out of stock on good deals 50% of the time :p

I really wish people would justify their quotes with some sort of evidence. Bigger speakers don't make for better sound, go to a hifi shop and ask about it I don't have time to explain.

I think these are ugly and there are much nicer solutions (yes more expensive) that don't make your living room look like your son's bedroom.

LOL

You just did the same thing,, I really wish people would justify their quote... Ha but you didnt either.

I KNOW these sound better than the entry level kefs, as I listened to them both when I was buying and the 1010i' s had a much fuller sound.

But got cheaper with a Diamond 9.1 with alumni rear combo and got a RSW12 for a subwoofer.

Yet, you have time to post smarmy comments like this.

I think your time would be better spent explaining yourself, so you don't come across like a superior know it all.

Sorry, just don't agree, the KEFs are not not just stylish, they are also outstanding performers.

Name a speaker package that isn't a penny more expensive than this that sounds better?

...yeah, didn't think so :whistling:

canada16 was clearly talking about speakers in this price bracket. That's the context of this whole thread, and indeed HUKD!

I'm a massive noob when it comes to speakers. Been putting off buying any for about a year because I;m so utterly clueless. Simple question: if I buy these will I need anything else with them, or will I just get them out the box, spread them about the room, plug them into my TV and enjoy the surround sound?
#38
You will need a 5.1 amp and the speaker cable; I'd recommend some stuff from QED.

So how much would I be looking at for an amp and cables?
