Kerridge - the problem is that I booked those dates in order to attend a wedding and have also booked (non-refundable) LHR-PSA and NZ internal flights to coincide with the Qatar flights. If I knew that Qatar were selling tickets they may not be able to honour then I'd have booked elsewhere as I don't need the stress!

Cheers Kerridge0 - I emailed Simon Calder from the Independent and he mentioned the same EU regulation. Good on the EU for stopping the airlines from charging more when they decide to cancel flights. I'm going to try and get something in writing from Qatar tomorrow as that way SC will be able to chase them - I suspect they'll back down when they realise I'm not willing to pay a £2k+ supplement to my fare. Though I suspect others will pay not realising they don't have to.
Hi Patrick_000 - just had a thought. Have you looked into the option of flying 5 or more days later at around 6th Feb when - in theory - they will have the planes? This might be allowable by the regs as it's quite close to your original flight dates.

My flight on 1 Feb (was Pisa>Doha>Akl) has been changed to just Doha>Sydney. I called them and they say the new plane won't be delivered by 1 Feb. But to make matters worse their policy (as of 17 Feb 8am) is you have to pay for the difference in fare for replacement flights (Pisa to Doha to Syd to Akl) or have a refund. In my case the difference for 2 people is over £2000 on top of the fares.
What an incompetent airline. It is their screw up so they should be covering the cost of rerouting (which will be adding 10+ hours to my flight duration).
The call centre did say customers are very angry about this policy and that the policy may change if there is bad publicity and reviews online. It was helpful of them to tell me this, I was quite surprised at their honesty!

That seems to be against the law according to European regulations so they might just be trying it on?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_261/2004

states that:

passengers are automatically entitled to their choice of (a.) re-routing to the same destination at the earliest opportunity (under comparable conditions); (b.) later rerouting, at the passenger's convenience, to the same destination under comparable conditions (subject to seat availability); or (c.) a refund of the ticket as well as a return flight to the point of first departure, when relevant.

Good price, but the connection times on the way back are not great from what i have found and as this will most likely be booked into T/O or W booking class then you will only earn 40 qpoints - If you are a Qatar Frequent Flyer like myself (so not worth me taking the deal).

BTW same price in December (limited dates) with good flying times

On the way back you can get a 15 hour lay-over, which is a little short to enjoy Doha (about £16 for the visa) as you land at nearly midnight and the airport hotel is expensive. If you could get a short connection on the way back and a long connection on the way to Doha, it would be far more enjoyable (due to the landing time in Doha). If you have not visited Doha, it's nice for a short break if you get a long connection - done it many times.

For the price, you cannot really go wrong - so voting hot, normally if i do this route i might fly from Europe as it's cheaper, but this price is good from the UK even with the connection times.

the only issue here is having to go to Birmingham.

Very good. Come up with that one yourself?
Birmingham's a great airport. Large enough to have all the amenities you need and with good destinations yet small enough to be personal and a pleasant experience. It's under utilised as an airport.

An additional saving of 2.1% (not much I know) when you go through Top Cashback - http://www.topcashback.co.uk/qatar-airways/
That's quite good actually. Long haul flight bookings often give just 1% cashback, if you're lucky.

I was buying London-Singapore for 1100 GBP on May school holidays for 2 adults and 2 children. As I was about the purchase, session expired and price went up to 2000GBP. I guess there was a glitch and they fixed it.

Have a look on STA travel - we've just picked up return from london during Jan for £430 (Air China were doing the same flight for almost a £100 Cheaper but didn't fancy it)
I booked the China airways option . Bad reviews wish I had seen this earlier. I have flown Qatar a few times excellent service the A380 is fantastic.

I think it'll be alright, it's an absolutely cracking deal - TBH the main reason we went the Qatar route was to fly on the A380 - not had that experience yet.

15hrs trip time with 1hr stop over makes 16hrs with my calculations. That's unless my email from Qatar and the quoted times are lying. You can indeed get flights for £650-700 but not at the times we were flying and not with a 5star airline. Finair/China airways and Aeroflot came up at £700 on the dates and times. If that's who you prefer to fly with then good luck to you.
ciaravella
Oh and the cheaper Qatar flights are 20+ hours we selected one with 1hr transit so was more expensive. The 15 hrs travel times come out slightly more.

Well you may have not booked yesterday or today but there would be many reputable airlines flying the Lon - BKK with 1-2 hr stopover for £650 - £700. So I'm not sure how much you actually shopped around for your booking agent to quote you £1,000 pp.
Appreciate your paying the extra to fly Business class but it's certainly not a deal at £1,500 pp.

I think maybe he's think Premium economy as we were looking at BA and that came out at 1200. If you want to fly with China Airways or Aeroflot I'm sure you can do cheaper..... If you get there

Just an update and a thanks... managed to book AMS-Bangkok on the 787 and then A380 (2.5 hour layover in Doha which will be good for a shower and a freshen up in the lounge) and returning from Phuket-AMS on the A330 and then 787 (this has a near 10 hour layover so I rang Qatar and they have organised free transit accommodation/transfers for a snooze/shower etc). We could've got a better plane coming back if we went via Bangkok again but the additional connection/time etc. was not really worth the hassle, lets just hope the A330 isn't too bad. Total price came in at 2609 EUR which came off my credit card at £1961 which I thought was really good. I've added our BA exec numbers so will see what gets credited to our accounts after the holiday. Now to find some lovely hotels in Bangkok and Phuket! Thanks Binary - no idea how you found such fares but glad you posted it :)
IXPROMO is just the fare code, not a coupon code - you don't need to enter a coupon to book this fare. The best price I am seeing for business class ARN to SIN in May is 13,161 SEK (around £1055). I would favour QR168 followed by QR944 with a 3:15 layover in Doha as both are scheduled to be 787 aircraft which will have a better business class product than the A330. But if you want to book it, do it now because this fare code form Stockholm (IPFRSE) expires on 1st February (i.e. in a few hours time!) Anything on IXPROMO is valid until 3rd February. To find the fare rules, you can do a dummy booking on a website like Expedia (there is a link which opens the fare rules in a separate window).
binary0110, I am trying to get the IXPROMO code to work but it always says it is invalid - trying from ARN to SIN for the beginning of May. Can you help please? I can't see what I could be doing wrong. Can you give an example where it does NOT say the IXPROMO code is invalid?

Cheers!
binary0110
You add the BAEC number after you've booked the flight (just go to "my booking" on the Qatar website). The tier points and avios will be credited soon after flying with them.

It's possible the flights to Amsterdam will come down in price so might be worth waiting before booking those.
Thanks very much, you have been really helpful! I have been looking everywhere and BA show you get tier and avios with qatar flights however didn't really say how you go about getting them credited. Cheers again :)

Economy seat in the 787 are 18.5 inches wide. Qatar are getting slated by travellers for this!
Try UKMEDIA it might work
Agree with Above, I guess Emirates are better.
But while on the question, whenever i book emirates flight on there website, they ask if I have a code (promo code). Do they exist for Emirates ? does anyone have any active codes ?
Good price, however for most of the dates that the low rates apply to, Emirates is mostly lower or on par and in my humble opinion better!
Whilst I agree that Qatar Airways are a better airline, having used them to get to Dubai before. For an extra £5 you fly with Emirates and fly direct. On that basis, its cold for me I am afraid.

I apologise to everyone I offended here in this forum. I don't know why I went all righteous keyboard-warrior type in the first place but I did. I thought it would be funny to be all condescending at first but it's obviously annoyed a few people so I'm gonna stop now. It was funny reading everyone's replies and this has been a life lesson to me: It has changed the way I outwardly present myself. I don't know if HUKD has a comment history but you might be able to see that I don't do this sort of thing, ever. I apologise and I hope this will be the end of it.

Please could everyone stop picking on this guy. He has a bright future in McDonalds ahead of him. Followed by a stint in Government deciding your taxation classes, and who they will give billions of aid too next. So be warned he might be knocking on your door in a few years wearing a rossette and asking you to vote for him. Though I hope he is a little politer than he is here.

Ah, still a Douche I see?

Private school huh? Thats super amazing, it really does explain your snotty attitude, although thats not an excuse. My children go to a Private school but I make sure they dont let it go to their heads. So I guess you'll not be filling shelves in Tesco's, maybe Waitrose?

Whilst I doubt that I'll be filling shelves in Tesco any time soon (I am of above average IQ and I attend a private school), I see nothing wrong with it. Work is work and if it gets you paid then it's both productive and rewarding, regardless of how degrading the job may be.

There's only one thing more annoying that an Douche and thats a snotty nosed 16 year old kid who is also a Douche.

Feel free to bring me up on my grammar, while your being all pedantic contemplate how correct spelling is gonna get you whilst you fill the shelves in Tesco's. ;)

Am I the only person that thinks return flights to anywhere for over £1000 per person is a tad expensive and not a good deal at all ???? Cold sorry

yes, but you shouldnt judge a deal cold just because your poor!

very good deal, goa would cose neat 600-900 on emirates economy

In this case, you'd rather be the poor, educated person in favour of the rich, uneducated person. It should also be noted that money is not everything and even though this deal is out of his budget, he probably leads a more content life than you do.

Having travelled back and forth to Bangkok 2 or 3 times a year for crew changes or pleasure since 1980 I can honestly say Qatar Air are one of the bottom feeders.

I don't fly the BKK route, my normal is HKG and MNL and i have found them to be very good, flown BA a number of times and I now only use them on short route. I really don't like the customer service with Air France as even on long trips to MRU they did not come around often with drinks and this is the same as on the longest route i took with them from HKG to CDG. KLM are good, but if your flying with Delta on their code shares then again they are not that great. Emirates are good if you get the new aircraft from Europe to Asia which this route is, but they use their old aircraft which is really tired on the african routes. Emirates customer service is about as good as QR's so that does not really say a lot.... Etihad are good, but honestly I would not really say that i would be bothered apart from the milage i would gain between these three middle eastern airlines.

Basically this route is a £500-£550 route all day long, yes sometimes it's below £500 and grab them when you can - it's not yet the wet season, the Thai New Year is the festival of water and this is on the 13-15 of April and normally prices at a peak at this time. Thailand is generally fine until May and during May the weather is changeable, but still enjoyable.

If you have the time and the money it's not bad - play around with open Jaw flights and you can get some good deals and FF's will have ways on knocking this price down to around £420....

Agree. The differences between the these Middle East carriers is minimal and often the pricing is similar. Currently Doha airport is pretty overcrowded and not great for a long stopover so Etihad a better choice. However when the new Doha airport becomes fully operational later this year that could change as rumour has it they were aiming to take over from Changi as one of the worlds favourite airports. Lofty ambitions....:)
Amazing price for Bangkok flights from Manchester.

Struggling to get under £525 at the moment.

Most of the returns to LHR are £183.00 - so just match with one of those dates and work backwards

expired now... but i was gutted that i saw the £176 flights to mumbai in the last few hours of the sale
Seriously good deal! Just booked Rome-Mumbai-Heathrow via Doha for £260 in Feb, awesome price considering the stopovers are just 2.5hrs going and 1.5 hours coming back. Used Avios to get BA from Heathrow-Rome, for £13.50 (+ ~£20 in tesco vouchers). So essentially less than £275! :)
Thanks zimbo that was a big help, although I did manage to go through Qatar Airways in the end and got Jakarta for €350.
