Not seen this as cheap before

It's the Mods versus the Rockers in this striking adaptation of the Who's classic rock opera about alienated youth in the 1960s. The film follows Jimmy (Phil Daniels) an angry young man who feels that he can only achieve a sense of identity and meaning in life through his gang and rock & roll music. This edgy time capsule also features Sting (in his acting debut), Leslie Ash, and Ray Winstone. In addition to Who songs such as "Love, Reign O'er Me," "The Real Me," and "My Generation," the soundtrack includes R&B classics by James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and others. Acting debut for rock musician/performer Sting.

SPOILER ALERT - Look Away NOW!

Amazingly .. years later ... I only realised Jimmy doesnt get killed at the end ... the real end is at the beginning of the film with Jimmy walking BACK from the cliffs ... just a wee snippet of controversy there readers! :whistling: And yeah I did have a LI150 Lambretta back in the early Seventies ...

Top film but the DVD I have is very poor quality.

An HD transfer from the original film would be fantastic.

Hazel O Connor is one of the most underated singe/songwriter/actresses of all time. There used to be a kids series about a struggling club singer with her in it, just like Breaking Glass without so much bad language, and a little less cleavage too:whistling:

Strangely, they still have not released a fully uncut version of this film on DVD - somewhere on the internet is a rundown of what is missing from each release

This version is complete albeit suffering from humbars and a minor jumpcut (another mastering issue).

Yes, she was in a couple of episodes of 'Jangles' and also appeared as a club singer in an episode of Euston's 'Prospects'.

Hazel did a homecoming gig in Coventry last Xmas. She played most of Breaking Glass with a full backing band (she usually only does acoustic versions) and it was a fantastic experience to hear these songs as originally recorded.

Check http://www.hazeloconnor.com/ for gig info.
