Thank God we have laws in this country, where food (and other products) manufacturers can't make stupid wild statements like the Daily Mail can!
#9
If you want good quality Porridge oats much cheaper = Lidl 29p 500g= 58p kg

Hence cold for me.
Cold Porridge :-(

I had to join just so I could ask how porridge IMPROVES SEX LIFE. Is it the kilts?

I find a tummy full of porridge is like concrete and incapacitates me for hours. As a boy I had ‘glow in the dark’ much nicer

Probably improves sex life because the alternative, ie. being dead from heart disease isn't very conducive to a chandelier-swinging sex life! :whistling:

Ready Brek? Processed junk!
No chance of the Daily mail extolling it's virtues - because healthy it isn't.
Might as well stick to Sugar Puffs or Frosties for that quick burn & sugar rush!

That top 20 list is absolutely ridiculous. But it was printed in the racist, filth rag, The Daily Mail, so it's to be expected.

Unfounded, made up scientific facts, written by idiots, for idiots.

Still, on the bright side, good porridge at a good price, so you can't argue with that.

Agree. Or Asda own brand Scottish porridge oats for 39p/500g which I prefer to Quaker oats. The Smartprice ones are even cheaper again, but I haven't tried them so can't say what they taste like. I hate oat "cereals" that are full of sugary flavours, I like REAL porridge, with a sprinkle of salt and some milk, mmm!

I just made it up.

Oh wait. No I didn't, everyone in Britain with an education agrees with me.

I eat quaker oats every day but this last box has a funny taste to it and it's put me off. I have to say, I haven't noticed the benefits offered above and I've been eating it daily for 3 years or so! (with sultanas).
#17
Two reasons against,

1/ they are not really quakerly oats. They just took the name and refused to give it back when unquakerly.

2/ As mentioned there is much better oats out there. After consideration we go with Tesco's organic porridge oats. Bit plastic bag for about the same price as quaker oats and comes out nicer. Or as mentioned most of the generic scottish oats are just as good as quaker oats for half the price.

It has to be Mornflake Superfast Oats for me, large 2kg bag available in ASDA and large Tesco stores currently £1. Absolute bargain.

So if I eat Quaker porridge I can give up the fags? Right, then. I'll get back to you on this one.

I am currently eating Quaker Oats.

I have to say that these are poor quality, in comparison to the previous oats that I was eating: Flahavan's Organic Oats (from Tesco). I paid a higher price for the Quaker oats (than this deal), however, I will not be buying Quaker Oats again.

My feeling is that you are paying for the name/advertising/branding, rather than the actual product.

I remember eating Tesco Organic Jumbo oats and they were also of a higher quality than Quaker.

I find that the porridge made by Quaker Oats is very sticky, while the Tesco/Flahavan's oats mentioned above, seperate better.

With regards to oats improving your sex life...I honestly cant see how this is possible. The best way to improve you libido is to either take medication (Viagra, etc) or become very fit (which in turn increases your energy levels). Quitting smoking and alcohol will also significantly improve your energy levels and sex drive.

I hear rumours that fruit can be pretty healthy in the morning. We do know kids are easily influenced by evil marketing execs at breakfast time and the reaction to one post about a cheaper brand of none kilt wearing rolled oats shows what an easily influenced snobbish society we are becoming.

The virtues of porridge are often removed when the little ones start pouring heaped spoons of sugar onto the cement to make it palatable, sorry a fruit salad for me and my family, porridge is for car parks, drive ways and office blocks

The problem with "just fruit", is that it doesnt fill me up at all. If I did "just fruit", then a few minutes later, I would want something more substantial.

I'm into doing serious exercise though, so I probably eat a lot more than most here, as my energy requirements are a lot higher.

Porridge is great if you are into doing lots (aerobic and anaerobic) exercise.
Fruit is very good though.

But, like I stated in a previous post, Quaker Oats arent very good.

Dead right.

The fructose in most fruits burns every bit as fast as anything from a sugar bowl, and lasts no time at all, although of course it is a brilliant food in other ways.

I am probably unusual in that I OVEREAT on fruit, totally mad on it in just about every form! Doesn't help my insulin intolerance hypoglycaemia at all though, as that makes me crave carbs of any sort even more a short time after! :-(

Something with complex carbohydrates that burns a LOT slower is the thing, such as porridge, although there are a lot of other options too.

If your "family" are children, then they need complex carbs to see them through to lunchtime. As has already been said here, fruit burns up like sugar does, meaning a sugar "spike" then quite quickly the person is hungry again. Unless they are having a fair quantity of banana which is better with carbs. I'm really surprised at anyone giving kids fruit salad for breakfast, I certainly have never seen it recommended anywhere. For a child I honestly would rather see them eat a plate of porridge for breakfast (even if it has a blob of fruit jam in it to make them eat it), than some chopped up fruit.
