You can't get this deal as you cannot select the Vista premium option with 512Mb ram. You have to select the 1Gb upgrade at £23 extra.

no

Note the spec above includes very basic graphics, which I am not convinced would support the Vista Aero interface.

The only graphics card offered is £47 and if you select it then it takes it up to £281.98.

Jeeezz, at these prices you fit your own graphics later dont you?

Absolutely! Always get people on these posts saying for £ extra blahdiblahdiblah. Anyone seriously interested in these would get one and extra graphics cards can be had much cheaper from places like ebuyer. Voted hot

Cheers Mike - just ordered one, got an Athlon 5600+ for UKP311!

I know these are new (desktop Inspirons), but I don't suppose anybody has any idea about fitting a GeForce 8800 in there? I know the PSU will need to be upgraded as it's only a 300W, just wondering about the space.

Are you selecting Vista Home Premium? That gives you a UKP94 discount over Vista Home Basic.

Amusingly, the first thing I'm going to do with mine is format the HD and put Linux on it, so nice not having to pay full whack for a copy of Windows I don't need.

Are you changing the OS from Vista Home Basic to Vista Home Premium.

This knocks £94 off the price.
#24
I chose Vista home Basic
#25
You only get the good deal if you go for Vista Premium, as you get £94 off.
#26
Just think how much more this would cost if they sold it with XP...:)
#27
:w00t: Good deal, ordered 2 this one and one with 19" - great deal for a kids PC
#28

Dell seem to be trying to get away from XP again. I can only suggest buying with Vista and then installing XP yourself, that way you have a Vista licience for later too.
#30
I've just ordered this with an upgrade on the processor. Many thanks to the OP for this find. I almost can't believe it. I wonder how long it will take or Dell to realise that something is not quite right? Who cares, I got my order number and I'm VERY happy.
#31
I dont think it is an error, I think it is trick to make people think that is is a real good deal....i dont think it is all that
#32
Very tempted indeed. I am debating whether to make my own but for £234 it seems a steel. Just need a decent graphics card and maybe another gig of ram.
#33
This works out dearer than the Intel one, but it is the 531 and not the 530... Don't know..
#34
hi,been looking at some of ur deals, can u tell me which is the better processor the intel core 2 duo e4300 or the amd athlon 64x2 duel core 4400 and can i put this graphics card in any of these specs u have posted geforce 7900 gtx 512mb pci express graphics card...many thanks for the help
#35
With no monitor and a basic spec pc this isnt that good a deal!
#36
hi there

just to let you all knowthat i changed the specs on this and it added up to 380 quid, i then called up the sales support and asked them to cancel. they asked why i said it seems abit too expensive for me, she offered me a 10 percent discount (38 quid discount) so i accepted lol. i also done through quidco so total cost with an e4300, 2 gig ram, and speaker/subwoofer = 380 - 38 - around 13 = 329 plus sell the monitor on ebay around 70 = 250 quid.....

They work fine on my E520 and Vista (the one that half the country purchased.)

Thanks, that swung it for me :-D

I think you will find the deal has been fixed now, you can not now change your operating software to subtract the £92
