I cannot see where it says Vista, I would have assumed XP is more likely. Another gig would be good though. It is the older Atom chip but still an ok machine.

Fail,,,,,This runs XP.

Will this D260 be 512mb onboard, and a 512mb sodimm occupying the only expansion slot?

Or do the D260s have 1gb onboard? (or none onboard, and 2 expansion slots)
#7
why would u want to spend £170 in 2011 on an XP machine with 1gb ram?

as far as I'm aware no Netbook has had Vista installed as the OS as it is totally unsuitable, so before Windows 7 basic came out for Netbooks they all had Windows Xp, many quarters prefer Windows Xp to Windows 7 basic for Netbooks as apparently it runs a lot better,

heat for the avatar, not the greatest netbook so I'm neutral on the deal itself

Should state refurbished in title maybe??

I have the Acer Aspire D255 and love it - only 1gb ram but it is a speedy little thing!

Wot no 6 Gig with Win7??!! X) Beware fellow bargainhunters, the power of marketing is everywhere...

Personally, I would say anything less than a 12" screen is a little too small, but some folks, think that is fine. Apart from that, I'd say this is a good deal for people who use a PC for mail, web, WP etc. (and don;t mind it being pink!! :p

This is a great little netbook. I got one from Argos refurb a couple of months ago - like new. Personally I got it specifically because I dont like Windows 7. This has XP and works well.
The only poor thing about it is the 3cell battery which can't manage more than 2-3hrs. It is fine for me though as I plug it in and use if for checking emails and a surfing and the odd bit of iPlayer. The other good thing about this netbook is it is pretty quiet most of the time, no noisy fan! And the screen is nice and bright.
(Mine came with mouse and sleeve, too). Recommended if you dont need battery life.

Given the lack of useful contributions in this thread, I thought i'd answer the only useful question asked thus far ;)

The D260 has no memory onboard, and has a single ddr2 so-dimm expansion slot that is filled with a single DDR2-800 (PC2-6400).

The motherboard supports upto 2GB, so you can replace the pre-installed 1GB with a suitable 2GB replacement.
Though this isn't applicable to machines running Windows 7 starter, as Windows 7 starter is restricted to just 1GB.

Initial investigations would indicate that upgrading the screen from the 10.1" 1024x600, to the much more useful 10.1" 1280x720 would be extremely hard if not impossible.

But you are looking at £300+ for a netbook with 2gb ram or more.Vista is an abomination, but this has XP on it any ways. Good price though, I've had to spring clean someone's and it's pretty sharpish given the spec.

nope these are easy to upgrade. modules cost around £20 for a 1gb dimm. or £30 for 2gb. that way you can have 3 as they have 2 slots

This is defo XP as i bought the exact same model/colour also from Argos Ebay at Christmas for the same price....the colour is fab and my 20 yr old daughter who i bought it for has been using it all the time and loves it!

probably cheaper than that ... I just bought a 2GB module for my HP311 for only £18. Now just need to decide if I leave itt with the XP that came with it or install a "spare" win7 that's been hanging around since I bought it on the launch £45 offer!

I honestly don't know why I bother.
