I have 1 of the older RAC satnavs, and find it just as easy to use as Tomtom on my mobile.

Tempted to get one of these as its widescreen and mine isnt!

Very cheap. Been after a sat nav for a while. Going to try and find some reviews on it first before commiting to purchase though. Voted HOT!
#6
can this be hacked?
#7
Can tomtom be put on this.

I have the RAC 200 from a previously posted deal, and its a great little Sat Nav, the maps that came with it were pretty poor but its relatively straighforward to get iGO 8 (preferred) or tomtom on. I'm assuming you can put other software on this too as they are both WinCE devices.

This is a great deal missed out the offers on the halford's website so this is a great alternative I've only ever experienced Garmin before now but my parent's are alway needing it so this is a great we sat nav

A little research on a variety of other sites suggests:
It takes MMC memory card (not SD)
Can probably load your own maps obtained . . . elsewhere
Can play MP3s
Not enough memory to calculate very long routes (would need to do it in stages)
USB 1.1 => very old tech (been around since at least 2007 when it cost £150)
Crashes when used with Vista - likes XP only

On balance, is very old tech, but looks like a good deal if you're happy with these limitations.
Only 1 big question to ask: how old are the maps?

eugh, RAC sat Navs are awful. Without "hacking" or modifying them, the standard software and maps are terrible. We sell the RAC 200 and 200E (Europe) models in work and we have about 10-15 that were returned as faulty by customers and even the suppliers (UTool) wouldn't take back off us! My advice, unless you are capable of replacing the standard software, don't even bother. You would be able to pick up a Garmin for a little bit more and we have NEVER had a Garmin fail on us, and i've personally sold hundreds of the things.

I'm sorry but it's against all known internet forum rules to back up your opinion that these are awful with reasons and personal experiences. Please edit your post to remove all the sensible and useful info and end it at the first full stop. Actually while you're at it can you please replace "are awful" with "suck" to fully comply with standards and conventions. Thank you.

We're looking for a sat nav at the moment and could do with some recommendations if this one isn't so good. The main thing putting me off this is the 'crashing Vista' thing which I read about elsewhere last night as we only have a Vista laptop and Mac OSX in this house.

Ive had an RAC satnav for a while now and i would not recommend the Route 66 to anyone.

its and american software and it hasnt been upgraded for UK in the last 2 years at least. I have hed it telling me to turn left while on a flyover and many other wrong isntructions due to not being updated. so anyone buying it be warned.

have not added heat
