No way heavy duty for £5

Not really heavy duty if only suitable for petrol up to 2000cc and diesel will be even lower, perhaps 1.8l max (if your lucky).

That said, it's a good price for a set of jump leads so i've voted hot :)

Darn - bought some leads from Tesco a few weeks ago for £15 :(

If your 2.0 diesel starts almost instantly, I bet they would prove sufficient for intelligent use with one of those also. Not enough time for the leads to overheat.

Prolonged cranking might be a different matter.

12mm is not bad for a fiver halfords are sellig 10mm for £18.99. The cables may be OK but the clamps may not and I have had a cheap clamp break rendering the cable useless.

As others have said, bit of artistic license to describe these as Heavy Duty and these type of clips are not the best but, overall, worth it for a fiver for smaller engined cars.

I bought some really good quality cables from Amazon last year which, IMHO, are worth the extra money.

Mighty Anorak - why not re-wire the cables with some decent clips:

Really? I got mine from there yesterday for £18.99 (extra long ones - 3 metres).

Thieving swines. Every little helps them!

Well worth it, as they day you need them and you have to get them from a garage you'll be lucky to get a pair and they'll be £20

12mm is far from heavy duty. May be good as power transfer cables but will just melt if truing to start a car with a totally flat battery.

May be good for replacement shoe laces :D

I've had a few pairs of leads like the RAC ones. The plastic is constantly under tension from the metal spring and tends to crack at an inopportune moment rendering them useless.

I'd also recommend the leads from Amazon mentioned above (I have a pair), which don't suffer from this design defect and look like they're heavy-duty enough to start a jumbo jet!

The silverline cables at amazon look the business-may order them.
I threw the cables away as they were getting hot as well and with the clamp breaking sealed their fate!
