Going to check my car tonight (owned it 3 years, was apparently HPI clear when i bought it, so still will be now) still nice to know though :)

And a great price! It doesn't look like a promotional offer...more like a permanent thing though?

brilliant timing - just thinking of getting a small car for my son - it will certainly give me peace of mind that he's not driving around in a salvage jobby!

Am i missing something? why would you check a car that you have already checked and you own?

Are you going to use the 3 for £12 offer and check it three times just in case?:?

Deal hot though

Waste of a fiver.
Anyone with a Q plate car like myself do not bother doing this check as it brought up nothing!!!
Didnt bring up date of mfi to efi engine change.
Didnt bring up old reg (I wanted this as only 500 made for members club so they could see how many still on road)or reasons why on a Q although Ive been told why would of been nice to have it confirmed in writing. This should of come under insurance right off part.
My vehicle is 18 years old but they had it registered as 15.
Oh and my milage they had multiplied by a 100 thousand :? clearly someone got slap happy with the zeros

Rac refused me a refund!!!

Wont use again!

Now off to write a complaint letter:x

Just to add am sure AA do a free basic check online if you sign up to their website.Obviously wont tell you if hpi clear or accident but does state owner change, colour, vehicle type etc.
#15
Have you got a link for the AA one then? The only one I can find is £25 for members and £29 for non-members on AA Site.

so, whats the concensus?

waste of time?

Most car dealers should provide an HPI clear report for free when selling used cars - if they don't, be very wary as to why they don't! but with offers like this u can do your own if u like the car enough.

If buying privately some sellers advertise as HPI clear and if u believe them or not, again for a fiver do it yourself.

I bought myself a 18 month old car the other week and used the 5 checks for £25 Autocheck offer, thought that was good value at the time! this one is SMOKIN' hot!

BTW. Two of the cars I checked came back with something logged against them!...one had outstanding finance and the other had been a write off even though it looked like a straight beauty of a car.

3 checks for £12 is a steal! :)

It says "powered by HPI" - does the actual HPI check provide anything that this one doesn't, or ar they the same?
#20
All this type info comes through HPI one way or the other, (Experian/Equifax/credit checks/DVLA etc) ......i got an HPI report with my car as it turned out and there's nothing much different on it (if anything) to the one I did with Autocheck (Experian) beforehand so I'd imagine the RAC one will cover all the importants.

Outstanding finance

Is a major part of the RAC Car Data Check as nearly two thirds of new vehicles sold every year are purchased using some form of finance agreement. With over 7 million current finance agreements registered with HPI, you need to make sure that the car you are buying is not subject to one of them. If it is, you can use the details provided to contact the lender and determine the current status. To find out more you can contact us
Security watch
Security watch
This is an alert register, which typically records vehicles at high risk of fraud or theft (e.g. hire cars, demonstrator vehicles and garage forecourt stock.) It is used by the police, finance companies and the motor trade, to ensure that these vehicles can be traced if someone steals them and attempts to sell them fraudulently. Do not go ahead with the purchase of any vehicle recorded on this register unless HPI subsequently gives you the all-clear.To find out more you can contact us

In addition, you will be advised if the vehicle has been registered with DVLA as having been scrapped. If you are considering purchasing a vehicle on the register, we strongly advise that you have it independently inspected for structural and mechanical integrity prior to purchase. To find out more you can contact us

Vehicle MileageNo mileage discrepancy is currently indicated by the national mileage register (NMR)
Click to find out about:Mileage check

Mileage check

'Clocking' or turning back the mileage reading on a vehicle is a major problem in the UK, costing an estimated £100 million per annum. HPI operates the National Mileage Register (NMR), containing almost 85 million recorded mileages. HPI Cross-references the mileage you provide against any readings previously recorded against the vehicle and advises you whether any discrepancies have been identified. You will receive one of four responses: i.'No mileage discrepancy is currently indicated by the National Mileage Register' - the mileage you have entered appears consistent with any other mileage readings held by HPI. ii. 'Data currently held on the National Mileage Register indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle' - these discrepancies could indicate that the vehicle has been 'clocked'. iii.'The mileage you have entered is inconsistent with other data currently held on the National Mileage Register' - there is a difference between the mileage you have provided and other data held at HPI, which suggests the figure you have provided may be incorrect. iv.'Data currently held on the National Mileage Register indicats that this vehicle may have been subject to an odometer change' - there are a number of legitimate reasons for changing odometers, but you should be aware that the vehicle has probably covered more miles than are currently indicated. If you receive response (ii)-(iv) above, the details of previous mileages will help you evaluate whether the vehicle has in fact been 'clocked'.To find out more you can contact us
