Product Description

As the all-new racing experience from Codemasters Studios, creators of Colin McRae: DiRT, Race Driver: GRID is all about the race. Every moment from the adrenalin rush at the start lights to the elation at the chequered flag the tension, pressure, noise, and action.

Featuring only the most powerful race cars current and classic, circuit and drift players will compete to conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships and then go beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, through to road events and urban street races.

With races crammed with action and incident, high-impact moments will come at you thick and fast, one right after another: engine blows, tyre blow outs, tight overtaking, accidents, opponent cars flipping, spinning, collisions with other cars and trackside objects.

From humble beginnings, earning a few thousand dollars a season, build a feared and respected racing team with a multi-million dollar income and complete at dramatic race locations and dominate a multi-disciplined world of racing.

In Europe, race prestige Marques, including Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani, on the greatest official race circuits. Enter street competitions and race high-performance V8 muscle cars through iconic U.S. cities including San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit. In the Far East, Japanese racing culture sets the tone where night races, including Drift racing, take drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads.

As the antithesis of the box-ticking, plodding single-player race game, Race Driver: GRID delivers a diverse career mode in a persistent world of racing that provides each player with a unique experience as their team writes itself into racing folklore.

I loved the 360 version and I'm tempted to get it on PC.
How's the community these days, plenty of opponents to race still?

I played it a few weeks ago on the PC and there were still people playing. Play it most days still on Xbox though, best online racer by far

There is a private server group on the Codemasters forums, they give out passwords. The have strict rules on driving etiquette (ramming etc), so if you want a good clean game that's where to go.

Excellent game for that price. Heat Added!

I had the fastest lap in the world at Nurburgring in BMC F1000, 1:01.17, it lasted for about 6 months. I also had the fastest lap in the world at Donington, 48.51, that lasted about a fortnight.

And although I've never had the lap record at Jarama F1000, I can drive the track without braking or lifting and usually beat the very best in the world, Anext, Asdas, Jumbo, Sandero, Turbo12r, John, Strike etc. Not played for a few months but will be back on soon now that the F1 season has me itching to race again.

You really need to play this with a steering wheel to compete with the best. Guys on keyboard are seriously disadvantaged. Occaisonally you'll see someone on a gamepad (Xbox360) and they do better, but a wheel is the way to go. Even a cheap £20 - £30 jobby is miles better than a keyboard (worth at least 2 seconds a lap at Jarama).

As of tommorow, my stats will be

Logitech Momo Wheel
i5-750 oc'd to 3.6Ghz
Nvidia GTX 470 sli (arriving tomorrow, how much?, how hot? ouch!)
Nvidia 3D vision
4GB DDR3 1600
2TB HDD

This spec is overkill for this game, it runs brilliantly on the most modest dual core with a reasonable graphics card.

A £30 celeron dual core 2.4 and a £35 ATI 4650 still hits 70 fps with all settings on high/ultra @1280x1024.

Great game, I just got the xbox wireless controller and I find it good but then I don't really play online.
It plays fine in 1080p with 3.3ghz dual core CPU, Geforce 9600GT Alpha dog and 2 gb ram, I think minimum spec is much lower.
