I am right in assuming this card is faster than the 4870 512MB? Sorry, haven't read any recent benchmarks...

The 4870 512Mb doesn't feature in the following graphs but the 1Gb does. Hopefully you can appreciate the fact that in certain circumstances a 4870 1Gb can be faster than a 512Mb. As such, if these graphs show that the 4890 1Gb beats the 4870 1Gb then it's also logical that it would beat the 4870 512Mb. Hope that wasn't too complicated for you to follow

Think I get it :-) Clearly it's not a significant enough difference considering I only bought my 4870 2 months ago and am set to lose, say, £30-£40 on it?
#13

With it being so close to your last purchase I would say no. Also, if you're gaming on a resolution of 1680 x 1050 or below then you'll be fine with what you've got now . 1920 x 1200 is still ok as long as you don't push the details too high (texture, AA, AF etc).

Holy Diver - thats a hot price!

Nice find :). I've gone for this, hopefully the quidco will track and the card will work, I really dont expect much from pixmania...

I ordered from them 6 years ago or so, bought an Archos Multimedia Jukebox - their telephone service and delivery was spot on. Haven't ordered since, but there's already someone on the thread who has also ordered stuff with them and found them alright.

To be fair, there are plenty of people who order from companies with no problems, and feel they have no reason to comment on them, but those who have issues tend to complain. There was a similar thing with Microdirect 5 years ago. Loads of people complaining, but I ordered about 12 items with them which all came in fine and delivered with no issues.

Is Pixmania really that bad? I never brought from them but I always thought their prices seem to be pretty decent.

I would like one of these instead of my SLI 8800GT ... but is it really worth upgrading? I run my games normally in 1920x1080 with games such as UT3, CoD4, etc and Peggle at times :D

Smoking hot deal, voted hot

@ anti5580 def worth upgrading from SLI 8800GT this card flies im using the his HD4890 and it overclocks easily to 950mhz core and 4400mhz memory it flys...

god dammit though I should really learn to wait before buying I paid £204 for mine grrrrr :-)

tried it loads, the code didnt work yesterday, and it still dont work now

Pixmania's current 'official code' discount of £5 off is on £200 spend or more, usually it's £150 or more, I think.

I've ordered loads of stuff from Pixmania before and never had a single problem, so I never quite understand the negativity about them. No-one can come close to Ebuyer for best online retailer (IMO), but sometimes even they can be beaten on price. This really is a mad price for a card that's only been out for a month.

No mate,

I honestly would not upgrade from SLI 8800GT's.

The performance increase you would get would be negligable, for a considerable amount of money.

I'd skip a generation.

Agreed.
I'd rather pay the extra from a trustworthy company that would replace a faulty unit without any hassle.
You also have the shipping fees back to france if it ever fails, and hope to god you actually get a replacement.

Awful, awful company.

lol, its quite funny, they probably have thousands of orders a week, 500+ reviews is tiny, although it could mean 100,000, but i doubt it. Its people like you who spread "doom" about companys. I know people who order from pixmania , there very happy.

sometimes problems arise when something goes wrong, but you can have issues with any company out there.
