Probably worth doing if your radiators are on exterior walls, but I imagine to get a good finish / ease of fitting needs to be done before the radiators go on.

Sticking foil behind your radiators is going to transfer the heat to the wall just as fast as it would anyway, foil is a good conductor of heat. The extra insulation may help a little but then you could stick insulation all over the walls in order to stop heat getting out.

If foil is a good conductor of heat then why do marathon runners wrap up in foil at the finish, and why do those that know advise hill-walkers and mountian climbers to take a foil blanket wkith them if it only conducts the heat away from the body?

fit with double sided tape for ease

or velcro and you can remove when decorating

they really are easy to fit and are far far better quality than wickes and screwfix

Radiator Reflectors are in the top ten tips on all the energy saving websites

    A snip at this price:thumbsup:

You will not find these recommended on any of the Government energy saving sites. The effect on the total heat loss from a room is negligible. If our pseudo scientist friends are to be believed we would be better painting the radiators black.

I would assume there is something in between the heat source (your body) and the foil? Clothes maybe? Or a blanket? They act as an insulator.

The key difference here being that there is no insulator between the foil and the heat source. Simply a stream of warm air coming from the radiator and into contact with the foil.

According to energy saving trust you can expect savings of between £5 and £25 per year for an average 3 bedroom house and (as suggested by several posters here) panels are most effective when fitted behind radiators that are mounted on un-insulated external walls.
I would suggest savings for most people are going to be nearer the £5 end of the scale, so difficult to get too excited about really.

I believe the practice of putting radiators in front of windows is a hangover from the days of single glazing – the rising hot air from the radiator blocking unpleasant cold draughts from the window.

It has also been pointed out that white paint reflects far more solar energy than black paint. This is not true in the infrared band though, where there is little difference between white and black paint. This is why you can paint your radiator any colour (as long as it’s not metallic) without effecting performance.

Hold a sheet of bacofoil over your hand................feel an instant increase in heat......nuff said.

The other thing to point out is that if this does indeed keep some heat out of the wall (which it probably will do because of the tile rather than the foil on it), then the wall behind the radiator is going to get cold and likely damp.

Only if 98% of your walls (which don't have radiators in front of them) are damp already...

I read this post yesterday and so went dashing off to my B&Q warehouse today....I was told that they have stopped selling the tiles and only now sell it on a roll...£6.98 per roll....hope it is as easy to fit as the tiles would have been better. Not sure if they are discontinued across the country but they are here in Nottingham.
