Woohoo! Number 1! Good job everyone! Just shows what can be done if people want it enough. Screw xfactor.

If you've not yet joined the facebook group do it http://www.tiny.cc/xmasno1, already over 800,000 members, lets keep xfactor away from number 1 forever!

There is also a charity connected to the campaign http://www.justgiving.com/ratm4xmas so you may give there too, it is a charity for the homeless.

The below is from the Facebook :

Facebook group
ONLY buy the track from Chart-eligible download sites (links to be posted when required) between these dates:

WHERE TO BUY FROM:

iTUNES - 99p - track #2 (click on 'view in itunes' on the right)
http://bit.ly/ratm-itunes

PLAY.COM - 65p - it's the only track on the page
http://bit.ly/ratm-play

7DIGITAL - £1.19P - track #2
http://bit.ly/ratm-7digital

HMV.COM - 79p (careful - this is track #1)
http://bit.ly/ratm-hmv

TUNETRIBE - 49P - track #2 - LIVE version (yes it counts)
http://bit.ly/ratm-tunetribe
or
http://bit.ly/rage-tunetribe (Studio Version)

TESCO DIGITAL - 67p - track #2
http://bit.ly/ratm-tesco

WE7 - £1.07p - track #2
http://bit.ly/ratm-we7

** AMAZON at 29p is TOO cheap, plus the other version defaults for some reason, so for the moment BEST AVOID! **

Update: Check the latest download chart updates here: http://www.livehits.co.uk (whether this is 100% reliable or not i do not know, but seems it)

UPDATE: *** AMAZON SALES DO COUNT TOWARD THE CHART. See Official Amazon post on their forum here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/tag/mp3/forum/ref=cm_cd_et_md_pl?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx28IXQIV6LBRU4&cdMsgNo=24&cdPage=1&cdSort=oldest&cdThread=Tx3U7MN4WDHUQUA&cdMsgID=Mx1V43X5O8FDTWD#Mx1V43X5O8FDTWD

UPDATE:
There has been debate whether cheap downloads will count when determining chart positions but the Official Charts Company has confirmed they will.

It says: "The rules do not specify a minimum retail selling price for the sale of a single to be eligible for inclusion. However, they specify a minimum published dealer price (what a retailer pays a record label for the song).

"This does not affect the ability of a retailer to carry out price promotions. Any genuine consumer purchases made as a result of a retailer promotion will be eligible as long as the single meets all other applicable chart rules."

Download for free (one per facebook account) and your download will count towards the chart:

You will just need a UK-based Facebook login for this to count towards the chart.

Boring...Whats peoples problems with xfactor getting the number 1 slot?
#4
Kinda wish that there had been a better song put forward by the anti-x factor brigade, but i think i'll still play along come next week :-)
suspended#5
Why couldnt it be a better song :-(
#6
I refuse to spend 70p to prevent the X Factor winner from getting to number 1 (even though it still will anyway, fixed most likely);

1. Because I already have the song.

2. Because I went off the song years ago.

But then it's tempting because;

1. As much as I respect the X Factor contestants, I wouldn't buy any of their songs.

2. 'The Climb' has already been in the chart sung by Miley Cyrus recently.

Yes.

rules state not to buy until the 13th. still hot!

WHo cares, anything to prevent xfactor trash!

I will most definitely be participating in this - mainly because my favourite band of all time are RATM!

70p people! Can you imagine turning on the radio and being welcomed by Killing in the Name Of as Xmas Number 1? Hahaha...bliss.

It's all a bit pointless really though isn't it?

So is xfactor

Xfactor this year is shockingly boring. Last year wasn't far off give it another years show and it will be scrapped.
#13
I don't buy downloaded music, but for this I will make an exception. I hate the x-factor pop machine with a passion.

Lets hope so!
#15
I don't listen to Xfactor type music, And if I had to choose I'd much rather listen to RATM But it's Ironic that if it wasn't for the X Factor people wouldn't be buying this. So either way Simon Cowpat maybe right when he says Xfactor is helping the music biz

WARNING!

Ignore the lyrics of this song as you buy a song purely to follow a crowd telling you which song to buy.

The irony may be too much to bear.
#17
not 100% sure if play downloads count towards the official chart. could someone confirm.

i know it sounds obvious that it would but not all download sites do, dont think amazons count. HMV and ITunes definately do count.

Love the song - and won't forget this - was a laugh at the time!

The Top 40, under Brookes' helm, was known for its slick production and tight timing. However, it wasn't without its moment of controversy, as it was on this show that Brookes infamously played the full uncensored version of "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine, which contains 16 instances of extreme expletives.[2] Brookes, not a known rock and metal fan, was not made aware of the language in the track and, as a new entry, included it in the broadcast. Unfortunately, Brookes also was working on the rest of the show and his studio monitoring headphone volume lowered and wasn't paying full attention; it was only when his producer brought what was being broadcast that Brookes quickly brought the track to a fade and continued. By this point, however, it was too late and the station immediately received numerous complaints. This incident has been and still is referred to by numerous rock media, such as Kerrang!.

Who listens to the radio?

I have CDs and MP3s and Spotify and I can choose which music I want to listen to.

This whole campaign is pathetic - the Christmas No.1 has always been rubbish and I've always ignored it.

Just give 70p to charity instead, rather than another record company.

Oh no, I get it - it's a particularly middle-class form of rebellion.

Pathetic.

Wouldnt all legal download sites count? Maybe be safe and buy from HMV or itunes, or both!

I never listen to charts nor watch xfactor and I don't have 70p to waste as I seem to be permanently short of cash but voted hot anyway! Hope it makes it! The idea of FU I Won't Do What You Tell Me being shouted across family living rooms across the country while grandma unwraps her presents brings a smile to my face! Maybe I need to grow up a bit!

Yeah, because the REAL way to do this would be for everyone to choose different songs so that no single song sells enough to have the desired effect

You're telling people which song to buy, when it's a song about non-conformity and individuality?

Don't you see that the organisers of this campaign are in fact performing a social experiment to see just how easily led people are?

SPOILER ALERT

The answer is very.

It's okay, the record company doesn't mind.

Why? It doesn't make the music you listen to any 'worse'. Just ignore it.

The money from these big-selling popstars ultimately goes into A and R so new bands are elevated.

It's always been that way, it always will.

Ironically, this just gives the X-Factor even more publicity. It's actually quite funny watching this mini-rebellion.

Because it's got some swear words in it - the organisers are master satirists in that respect.

It's good that you mentioned Cliff Richard because he's had a couple of Christmas no.1 singles and they were rubbish too.

Christmas No.1s are almost universally pretty rubbish, moribund music.
#39
Let's not!

Theres approx 13 million x factor viewers... it will only take a fraction of them to buy the xfactor single...
