Rails and Hattons are both affectionately known within the model rialway industry as box shifters. They are two of the biggest shops that supply Hornby and Bachmann models. In general, their prices will be ever so slightly cheaper than your bog standard model shop as they sell more (hence the tag box shifters). They take pride in saying that they buy second hand stuff from people, which they do (in vast quantities). People involved in the hobby will know that eBay is littered with items from them. All items used to be started at 99p and left to run, however people at Rails have since changed tack opting for (inflated) Buy-It-Now prices instead. A number of the listings contain discrepancies for a reputable model shop, and I personally would recommend looking over items very well before purchases are considered.

For instance, this is Rails trying to cash in on a limited run:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Gauge-Hornby-R3096-BR-Standard-Class-7MT-Steam-Loco-70004-William-Shakespeare-/161172466979?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2586a0ad23

Yes, the item is listed as a restoration project. However, it is also listed as `test run', but I can tell you for a fact that the model wont run due to the main coupling rod being bent at some point. I have a little knowledge of model railways, but you would think a shop like Rails would be able to spot such defects before listing? Buyer beware!
bull****
all the pieces I checked against tesco direct are waaaay expensive:
for example:

Hornby BR 2-6-2T Prairie Class
Tesco £67.48
TESCO Hornby BR 2-6-2T Prairie Class

your shop, which you advertising: £89.50
OP
Hattons are generally very good for prices. Any particular examples you think are very good?
