Hi
Bought this at Christmas for my father in law - returned it in January, we took it back twice and had 2 replacments both had their faults in the end we had our money back. If price reflects the quality it should be nearer £50

To be honest you need to spend a lot more than that to get a decent full suspension bike.

Full suspension for £80? Will be heavy and you'll not enjoy it.

Get one without suspension for that price!

But mostly good reviews on Argos. Seems like a reasonable or even deal to me.

Full suspension bikes cost approximately 10x this and you don't need one unless you plan to go very fast down the side of a mountain 9not a good idea on an £80 bike).

For this sort of budget look for a bike with no suspension and an aluminium frame (and ignore bike reviews on Argos' website).

(...ignore bike reviews on Argos' website).

Ignore the views of current owners of the bike - nonsense! Read them with an understanding that they too bought a cheap bike and probably have nothing to compare them with, but at least the owners can comment authoritatively upon whether the bike feels ok and works well. That's why we have reviews! Inicholson's comment on aluminium frame and no suspension is about right - but a brand name backed up by decent reviews would be helpful. And the starting cost will be probably be around twice the price of this bike. And worth it.

I'm not a fan of aluminium frames. Back in the 90s there were some excellent steel frames which you can get on ebay for very little nowadays. Sadly, since aluminium frames are much cheaper to produce, not many quality steel frames are made any more.

@ mccririck - expensive steel frames are no doubt great (and I understand there are still a few in production) but at this end of the market a steel-frame tends to be a good-signifier of a cheap, heavy bike. Full-suspension for under £200 is probably a better indicator.

@mrcoxexcel - "ignore" was probably a bit harsh. Take Argos reviews with a pinch of salt then? Anybody buying a full-suspension bike for under £100 almost certainly has never ridden a proper bike and has no idea what to compare it to. OK, if all (or most) of the reviews sat "I've commuted to work on this bike every day for the last 6 months and it's great" than that would suggest the build quality is better than I expected. But most are ridden by parents who haven't ridden it. I can conclude from reading the reviews that it's easy to assemble.

Steel at this price means Hi-Tensile Steel which is cheap, heavy and rust prone. Expensive steel bikes use Chromoly Steel, (try googling Tange a Ritchey) which weighs the same but is much stronger. As a result, tubing can be made thinner without sacrificing strength, therefore allowing a weight saving.

This bike will be hideous to ride and if you are serious about getting into cycling, then consider spending more that £80 on a bike or buying 2nd hand. The initial investment will be worth it.
