Raleigh Criterium Full carbon road bike with Sora - £499.99 @ Wiggle

£499.99 @ wiggle
Alternative to the Ribble. About the same sprcs but anyone using cycle scheme vouchers - wiggle don't charge extra 10% for this. This is an excellent bike for the money! 56cm only - GazmoX

It's a carbon frame, but the popular Felt (Alu) deal on here has full Tiagra (next level up).

I am guessing the wheels on the Felt would be a slight better spec?

Tough call, but I think I would lean towards the Felt, unless the carbon frame on this is known to be of a good spec?

Heat as it's a good deal.

I would go for the Felt over this too but i prefer Tiagra over Sora.

Frame on this is however excellent - reviews are very good.

So if wanted a cheap carbon frame you could buy this, keep the frame and fork, strip sell the rest?

What is the frameset weight?

If you are after a higher performance bike, why not save yourself the hassle and spend a bit more? Unless you are proficient at building a bike from scratch.

I am not after a new bike or frame, just thinking out aloud if it would be a worthwhile purchase for carbon frame. I ride a Caad10 that's Alu but perhaps still a better frame than this?

I have built many bikes, and frame swaps etc. With the right tools it's pretty easy.

They like the frame and fork, but not the components, which is expected at that price range. I would still get the Felt.

Terrible frame and god awful components make this basically a BSO.

I reckon this is a really sound deal. Nice looking frame. Beginners sure have a lot of decent bike available at the £500 mark nowadays!

BTWIN Ultra 105 11 speed XS, S, XL £550

Whatever you buy as a beginner around £500 you're not going to lose much money - as long as you make sure you actually want to get into cycling!

A bike like this will whet your appetite, and if it doesn't you will easily flog it for £400 quickly - so the £100 you'd spend on a BSO from Sports Direct, Tesco, Halfords

Cheap way to get into cycling. Buy a bike from them at £100 is likely to not make you want to ride very much!!

What nonsense. It's a good carbon frame with cheaper components to get it to a particular price point. Seeing as this is half its RRP it's a great building block for upgrades. Sora might not be amazing but it's not bad by any means.

Ah, just remembered you said pretty much the same thing on the voodoo thread. Are you a troll out to annoy the cyclists among us or just clueless about bikes? Hard to tell.

That Btwin offer is phenomenal!! Decathlon make excellent bikes. The 105 group set is over £300 on its own!

Yep, well worth an extra £50 however this is also a cracking offer. That one is just way better but for £50 minute price difference is just silly.

you're getting a named, full carbon with sora, for under £500. and some are still complaining?

So tell me how a dura-ace groupset is going to get you up a hill? Sora is perfectly functional, even with a wide ranging cassette like 11-32. Some gaps in gearing will be tighter on an 11 speed but when it comes down to it a groupset isn't going improve your FTP.
