I have this and it's a good set. Easily as good if not better than similar priced halfords gear. You get what you pay for, but for under £50 this is a good deal. A decent professional set with similar amount of sockets would cost a lot more.

Well it's not Snap-On and you probably wouldn't want to rely on them for your livelihood but I've had a few other bits of this Powerfix stuff from LIDL and the quality is actually fairly reasonable, for the price level it's pretty good.

On the definite plus side, it only contains metric sizes so you're not buying a bunch of imperial sockets you're never going to use like you do with Halfords professional (for example) sets.

Looks like the case actually has a proper hinge and latches as well which was a major bugbear with Halfords professional sets

I just checked halfords sets even their most expensive one that they claim to be professional is made from chrome-vanadium,

by looking at the picture of the lidl one i can tell its the screwdriver bits that are made of s2 steel, do you know what parts of the kit are made of chrome-moly? any chance of having a quick look at your kit?

if the sockets are chrome-moly it makes it better than anything halfords offer at any price and id be surprised if anyone can find a better kit for the money

    thanks

"You get what you pay for"

    What does that mean?
There's no such thing as a bargain?
    I paid £300 for a 50" telly.
Go on, tell me, what did I get then?

Translation - don't expect a set of sockets which would be suitable for use by a professional mechanic.

I think all the sockets are chrome vanadium. The only part of the kit labeled cr-mo is the back of the 1/2" ratchet handle - ie the bit that the socket attaches to. There are a couple of pictures below of the set if you're interested.

My comment wasn't intended to reflect on the quality or value of your 50" telly. Just that in this case this is a good value £40 socket set. Not worth a lot more than what you are paying.

Yeah the newer ones do but up until a few years back you got flexi hinged moulded on latches and the same flexi hinge for the case itself. The latches would fall off and eventually so would the lid.

Where are the ratchet spanners? All I see are sockets and driver bits
    jumpinoffthbed
it's probably worth mentioning that th ratchet spanner is 72 teeth & they were selling it on it's own for £13, I bought this set in the end because I decided the ratchet & th 2yr warranty made it better value than the halfords set on offer at £90 at th mo. i'm changing my disks & pads this afternoon so will see how it performs

Lidl always has good items at decent prices. This is a great deal & to top it off, you get a 2 year warranty. Freaking sweet!8)8)8)
