Heat Added, Good Deal if your in the market for a high end watch

Christ! Do these things tell the time? So does my watch I got from a grabber machine in an amusement arcade and that's lasted years. I hope they fly you to Switzerland to collect it for these prices! I can't understand why anyone of moderate intelligence would pay this sort of money for a timepiece. can you imagine if you were out somewhere and dropped/lost it? Oh, and before anyone screams 'insurance you fool' can I just say that the day I get insurance for a watch is the day I take a cordless screwdriver to my temple!

These say more about a persons vanity than anything else. I've always believed that 'Manners make'th the Man' not his watch. Oh well, rant over...

As for a deal in it's own right it is amazing. As someone has said though, take these RRP's with a moderate pinch of good old sodium! I'm sure we've all seen those pen and watch sets that say RRP - £90 but you pay a fiver. Hang on, I've got one of those!

RRP is a bit of a grey area nowadays, so I'll take your word that they're good value

Yea, you're definitely right about the RRP. I did a quick search, and while other vendors weren't selling them at anywhere near the RRP amazon's claiming, the amazon prices are at least 20% less than other places.

Sorry, but quite a ridiculous rant  Like anything, quality comes at a premium.

My aldi watch ascot brand has been going 5 years!!

for this price i would want the watch to be made from pure gold and made in-front of me.

i would also settle for some guy to follow me around for a while and tell me to the time when i ask.

I guess you'll want him to typecheck for you too?

With the economy as it is you shouldn't have too much trouble finding someone to take up your offer - when do I start?

cool watches.
#18
Voted hot but, can someone define quality for me when it comes to these, is it craftmanship, material costs, or good ol exclusivity
#19
I have one of these for my everyday watch. Been going for six years, never missed a beat.
#20
Ooo, the top one looks nice. Oh go on then, you've sold it to me.

I'll just go and remortgage my house.
#21
How long have these watches been out? Companies always seem to state RRP when they are trying to get rid of stock, even when prices have been low (maybe not as low) before; phones and sofas are good examples.

Personally I would pay from £400 - 2 grand for a watch, they had the Police watches on sale on amazon which I thought looked better and tells the time just like these.

I'd just rather eat XD, but heat for the savings who do want these.
#22
I've had a Raymond Weil watch for nearly 25 years now. Cost about £180 at the time. Still looks great and working well. Great value for me at least.

Exactly what evidence is there that these watches are any better than a £20 timepiece? People look at the 'name' and the price, and automatically decide that the product is good. Is there any evidence that they last longer, tell the time better, add a couple of inches to the male member? No.
#25
I've used a Raymond weil watch for 15 years - its well made from good materials and it looks good. Arguing about price versus usability for jewelry items is pointless IMHO eg. a yellow metal set of ARGOS earrings serve the same function as a pair of Cartier Diamond Earrings.

Good watches at a good price. Hot.

I like to have nice things, I work hard for my money.

Of course there are cheaper alternatives, like anything, it's a choice if you want bargain brands or designer/luxury brands. Why have a Ferrari over a Kia? They both do the same thing. The reality is that the Ferrari is more comfortable and exclusive, hence why you pay more.

Raymond Weil are a great Swiss manufacture. They have been an established brand for hundreds of years. I am not sure whether you will get the reception you desrve for this deal on this forum. Some people choose to wear a nice watch for the build quality and prestige. I think some of these watches are an absolute steal, may have to go for the Don Gio and put the Jaeger away!!! ABSOLUTE STEAL GREAT DEAL.

People should not vote this cold because it's a very very good deal. If you could get a Ferrari at 25% discount it would be a great deal. This is the same!!

Also beware of most Internet watch sites which offer discounts many of the manufacture do not authorise the warranty unless it is purchased from an authorised dealer. Check with Amazon first!!

Well Done

No it isn't. VC or PP are Ferraris this is more like a top spec Ford RS or VW Golf R32.

At the end of the deal this forum is about 'hot deals'. If you can find these watches cheaper elsewhere then vote cold, but don't vote cold just because it is something you can't afford.

#31
As watch prices go this is not high at all.....

Thats the problem these days everything is about how cheap something is not how long it last or the actual quality of the item. People want cheap crap from china that breaks after a few months I guess. My wife got me an Omega for my Birthday years ago, properly looked after they last a life time.

Whats wrong with having something nice that is of good quality, that is valued, appreciated and will last ?

It's not much of a deal if they've simply inflated the "RRP" and then discount the inflated price.

Also you're confusing price as being the sole determination of a hot deal.

A hot deal is one that is high on value as well as being low in price. Otherwise the site would become a price comparison site or a shop window for Poundland!:p

It's pretty open to debate as to whether these represent value or not.

You must be poor then
#34
It all depends what you want a watch for.

If you are just interested in time keeping then a digital watch or an analogue quartz watch for £20 or less will more than do.

However some buy watches as jewellery or a sign of achievement. Watches can go from £1 to £1m+.

There is a certain allure and romantic notion about a mechanical watch and its why the Swiss Watch Industry is a $25bn market.

If you paid £400 for a Raymond Weil quartz watch with a rubber strap then your only achievement would be one of becoming a complete fool!:p

I'm sorry, but £400 really isn't a lot for a swiss made watch, and it's a good deal for a Raymond Weil. There's a certain quality and reputation that's attached to both 'swiss made' and the brand 'Raymond Weil'. In addition, this watch is from Geneva, which is the most reputable watchmaking town in Switzerland. A rubber strap may not be great for work or formal occasions, but it's casual and sporty, so if you're looking for that look, then you're not that much of a fool.

I'd much rather spend £400 on a swiss made Raymond Weil than £80 on a watch made in China or Taiwan with a designer label printed on its face (which describes most of the other watches sold on Amazon).

I would agree like Movado who sell high priced watches backed by chepa as chips quartz movements are pure rubbish.

I should just point out - check what movement the watch has - this is the time keeping method - two types Quartz and mechanical.

Quartz = common and cheap
Mechanical = more expensive but require servicing

A quality watch well looked after is an asset. I would not pay anywhere near £400 for any Quartz watch - for me it would be nearer £25 no matter who made the watch.

The "Swiss Made" label is just that its a label. Even some high end watchmakers are using parts manufactured in China and movements made there also. To get the Swiss Made label on a watch it only has to have 50% of the parts made in Switzerland. Yes there are quality Swiss manufacturers but they are smaller - the major brands are all about marketing. You want a quality hand made mechanical movement watch as a decent price then look towards German or Japanese watchmakers.

Either you are misinformed or a liar? Raymond Weil illustrious history as you point out goes back to just 1976. I will discount the rest of your post.

It's more than a label. Three requirements:
* its movement is Swiss;
* its movement is cased up in Switzerland;
* the manufacturer carries out the final inspection in Switzerland.
At least 50% of the component parts that make up the movement must be Swiss, but that's besides the point. Final inspection is carried out in Switzerland, which assures quality. This isn't just a presumption, it's quite well established that watches that are swiss made are more than a label and represent very high quality.
