I had one of these last Fathers Day and they really are a waste of money. They don't sharpen the blades as advertised just supposedly cleans them properly. When pressing the blade on the rubber sharpener it shredded the rubber and made it useless.

Promises the earth and delivers s**t

Have to disagree, had this for a year, helps my blades last longer for sure.

@greekmick did you use shaving cream/gel on the thing first, making sure there's no water, and only push the blades upwards (i.e. opposite of shaving action)? Only my rubber looks as new and I've had it over a year

.... and there I was thinking "I wonder if these actually work?"

Because, obviously, you accept a product that claims 4* revies overall but only quotes the 5* reviews, don't you? ;)

Supposed to clean in the opposite direction you shave and it says in the description that it cleans it to make it sharper

Did everything I was told. To be honest I got so fed up with it I may have pressed a bit too hard on the rubber thinking it was indestructible.

Why does it say it sharpens blades surely metal is harder than rubber. It might take the gunk off a blade but that's about it. Cheaper to just run the blade backwards along any cloth fabric is it not?

Yeh remember someone posting or linking a youtube video about a pair of jeans touse for cleaning the blades....

It's actually only £15.19 if you use the 20% off code TOPPICKS spann3rs. You might want to edit the title to show this - good deal - heat added

How does the leather strap barbers use sharpen the blade of a razor

it's a technique called honing. a blade's edge will tend to dull because the cutting edge slowly deforms over time, often by curling or nicking. With razor blades, when the edge is out of hone, it's began to curl, so the sharpest part of the blade isn't making good contact with the skin, causing it to not properly cut away the hair. The leather is tough enough to re-hone the blade, and restore it's edge. Even stone sharpened blades are often honed after sharpening because of the force applied to the blade by the stone, and resulting deformation.
