#2
From the forum comments, think the memory is different inside.
#3
does it record sound?

friend of mine had one of these and picture was very good, ordered and heat given

#8
How long can you record for?
#9
records for about 90 minutes on a single charge
#10
If it's not all black you'll see the camera lens
#11
I bought one of these and it has a black top, rather than silver as shown.
To answer a previous question, yes it does record sound.
Picture and sound quality isn't too bad for the price paid.
The camera pen is actually slightly larger than a normal pen, but it is very good value for money.

The problem when using this to infiltrate Dr Evil's Headquarters in a hollowed out Volcano, is the blue LED which is quite bright, thereby blowing your cover.
#13
you can see you are recording - beware the disc that comes with it has trojan virus on it.
and it is all in chinese. took me a while to translate it. lol.

Alreet, clam down calm down our kid

Ordered one for myself. I work in schools and might leave it running when alone with students, could be used as evidence if they attempt to make false allergations. Probably get arrested for videoing minors without parental consent in the process mind, but you cant have everything.

How can others see you are recording? Is it via the LCD light, and if so can this be blanked out somehow?
#16

This is a bit cheaper than last time
#19
I've ordered one of these, its a couple of pounds cheaper than last time, but crucially its also now under the £17 import limit. I know DE work in our favour when it comes to shipping labels, but I've ordered so much from them that sooner or later someone will ask a question.

I'm planning on attaching to the front of my motorbike and having a record of the hundreds of people who still think its appropriate to use a mobile phone while driving....

The LED is above the camera lens. I guess you could cover it with a bit tape or something.
#21
grrr, so annoying.

I got one last time they were mentioned and it arrived this week but won't work so I'm sending it back for a replacement. This means all the current buyers will receive before me as mine needs to be shipped back AND they'll have paid less for it! Seems very unfair that dealextreme don't refund faulty goods they just replace.

That does really annoy me too the amount of peeps who blatantly use their mobs while driving.
There should be somewhere you can submit evidence to in order to report these sukkas.

Might also get you some money from 'You've been framed' when you get T-boned off ur bike! :whistling:

Oh great a secret spy camera that tells people it is an electronic device by flashing a nice bright LED light in their eyes. Oh the irony of it. :?

is it possible to file down the led light? this would destroy the light and make it less noticable?
#26
I just put a small piece of tape over the light, not a problem really :whistling:

Bought one of these the last time and been using it to good effect as a cheapo helmet cam (but taped onto the bike handlebars instead). Was going to use it as evidence against the nasty lorry driver this morning who deliberately tried to run me off the road :x but now its no longer recognized by the PC :-(.

Feels quite humbling and kinda weird that the last moments of my existance would have been captured by a cheapo sub £20 Chinese gadget.

Produces pretty decent results none the less and well worth the money so will be replacing if DX don't.

On my pen the LED's are at the back and can easy be hidden by a small bit of black tape

Any idea why? Does the USB driver need to be reinstalled?
Not sure it is even worth £17 if reliability is a problem.

Yeah because that's what we want a society that spy's on one another and reports to the authorities. It worked great in China, they even gave nice rewards for the spying. Very cool for children that don't get much pocket money as they can grass on their parents.

Ive bought a few of these pens in the last couple of weeks and thought Id post a few pointers on here :-

1. You do not have to install anything from the included driver CD, Windows should recognise the pen as an external drive automatically. You will however need to install 'Storm' which is a codec for WMP which will allow you to view the videos that the pen has recorded. The videos will not run directly from WMP or Quicktime, they didnt for me anyway.

2. Reliability does not seem to be the best and quite often the pens seem to lock up which means a manual reset having to be made ( this means just pushing a needle into the reset hole ).

3. Charge the pen by plugging it directly into the USB socket on your PC, the external chargers that come with the pens do not seem to work too well.

4. It is best not to destroy the little LED at the back of the pen as this will be needed to determine whether the pen is in standby (yellow) or recording (blue). There is no other way of telling.

5. The quality of the video is pretty good, even in dim light, however the sound is pretty dreadful so I wouldnt buy this for voice recording alone.

6. Pens with higher recording quality are about to hit the market, I think they will record 640 x 480 which is why I guess the price of these are now coming down.

BTW guys, how do you tell if your pen is a MP8 or MP9. Would both pens have the same resolution?
#34
The MP9 has a more glossy finish, looks nicer . . other than that they should be identical. 99% sure they'll be the MP9's.

Thanks for the useful information.

After I installed 'Storm' and I re-connect the pen to my PC, three removable disks are created.
1st, has a couple of bin files,
2nd, has a system folder.
The 3rd is where the recorded files are stored. I put my 'userconfig.txt' in the root of this drive and it works fine for setting the date/time stamp.
To view the recorded files I use 'VLC media player'.

Am I right in thinking you MUST install STORM and that the pen isnt just plug inand play like most other USB drives?

The pen will come up as a removable storage device once you have made a recording on it and attach it to the pc after that.

Hi All,

I accidently deleted the driver on my pen drive. Can anybody send me the necessary files please?

Cheers
Paul
