Nah, this isn't a first. For example: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-03-26-wolfenstein-the-new-order-panzerhund-edition-doesnt-include-the-game

Arguably, it's just providing more flexibility to the buyer, as you can then choose freely whether to pair the collector's edition extras with a purchase of the physical game, digital download game, or no game at all - you just need to factor that in to the total price.

Been so tempted by all of the collectors editions with statues recently that have been cheap such as this, watch dogs 2, assassin's creed syndicate and Halo 5 but I have such a backlog of games already! and my other statues such as Gears of War 3, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed III and Far Cry are all still in the box. Assassin's Creed is even still sealed! too little time! :(

How the **** is it a collectors edition when there's no game. Like buying a limited edition car and the **** don't give you the wheels

Yeah a quick skim of their website shows that this seems to be a thing now - collectors ed but with no game. Crazy

I don't understand why people are so bamboozled by the idea :P Allow me to quote myself from another thread.

why on earth would you release a collectors edition of a game without the game, this truly boggles the mind :o
Just gives the consumer more options. Like, if someone wants to buy the digital edition of the game, but also wants the collectors items, this allows them to do that.
Alternatively, maybe you buy the standard edition of the game, and then decide you would like the Collectors Edition. This would allow someone who already has the game to upgrade to the Collectors Edition without buying the game twice. Is it really such a hassle to order the game separately?
Plus games are expensive at release, and that is factored into the price of a collectors edition that includes the game. So if you can buy it without the game, and wait until the game is heavily discounted, you're getting the whole thing a lot cheaper. I mean, the Collectors Edition with the game is £179.99 and the Collectors Edition without the game is normally £94.99, so you're essentially paying £85 to get the game with it. So if you're willing to wait until the game is £20, you're making a £65 saving. And now that the Collectors Edition is £50, you'd be making a £115 saving.
So all in all, it's a consumer friendly practice, and I hope more companies begin doing it.

I've collected collectors editions for over 7 years now and I'd say it's one of the best quality statues I own, that and the fact it's absolutely massive so for £23.99 delivered what more does everyone want? Buy the same seperate at £17, happy days.

Yeah personally I love the fact I can get the collectors edition merchandise, and then buy the game digitally without having to pay for it twice. (And then I don't have to wait for the postie, knowing Game never get stuff dispatched for release, at least to me.)

Received this today, and it arrived in awful condition :(
Outer box was torn and it had 'On Display' written on the top, with everything obviously opened. Display models should be clearly marked as Used rather than New on their website.
Hopefully they'll replace it without much hassle (doubtful, with GAME). Was so looking forward to adding this to the collection.

thought about buying this as its a nice statue however it just let me add 99 to my basket so i presume they have alot of them so it should drop further at some point.
