Was it me or was there shoot loads of wasps this year? After a summer both in England and Abroad, constantly harrassed by those pesky yellow and black blighters I came across an article in the pape…

Don't get me started on those plastic herons - herons are territorial and solo hunters - so why did I loose two koi when the plastic one should have put it off?????

Let me offer you another idea - for free if you like jam.

When you get to the end of your jam jar and there are just scraps that are impossible to remove add some water to the jar, say about a third full. Put the jar at the bottom of your garden. Wasps will be attracted to it but will drown in the water. Keeps them away from the house and reduces the numbers.

This works better if you put the lid on the jar and make a hole about twice the size of a wasp in the lid.

Good idea but we found it much better to pay £45 to the pest control at the council to come and destroy the nest in our loft.
Isn't this similar process to those plastic herons you see placed by ponds?

cold for me .... my neighbour has one and they STINK , amount of wasps, and FLIES (especially) has gone through the roof. They are attracted to its scent (if its the same kind of one), theyre everywhere seem to come from every which way .. bad idea.

The REAL question is whether your neighbour is suffering from more wasps as a result. The wasps are probably too scared to set up home in his garden so have chosen yours instead.
