Probably the cheapest price offline. Since the supermarkets have been forced to sell it at around £40. Also, for those that dont know there is a shortage of PS3 stock atm, so Argos might be your best bet for Friday morning hunting. At the time of posting this deal the check and reserve online still isnt taking reservations. However, the ring and reserve is live and ive just reserved my 360 at my local 10 minutes ago.

EDIT: It seems that you can tradein selected games at Argos nationwide to get it for either £22.49 or £9.99. Info link below in comment 15. Also seems to be cheapest price anywhere, including online. With only Amazon coming close at £35 for 360, but no direct stock of PS3.

Supermarkets were FORCED to sell it at £40? How so?
#3
Got mine comming from tesco online only paid £29.99
#4
is this really that popular

This game is amazing!. I'm about 9 hours in and only 15% complete!, it's massive!. As for supermarkets being forced to sell it at £40 and talk of "stock shortages"?, it all sounds a little fishy to me.
#6
Got mine yesterday from Tesco entertainment.. Used 15% off code and got it for under £29..
Cracking game and recommend the guide!!

Thanks to the OP for the post, while it is true that its not as cheap as the Tesco Ent. deal, it is a good price for the high street. I think you would be hard pushed to find better out and about on the day, especially as the OP said that Supermarkets (in particular ASDA) have had some arguments with the games publisher about the selling price. In fact i believe that ASDA are not even stocking the game.

Just what i've heard/read about.

Anyway heat and rep added.

Correct, ASDA arnt selling it. They wanted to sell it at a reduced price, but were told in no uncertain terms they werent allowed. As for those that got it cheaper at Tesco ent, firstly they are having stock difficulties (as is the rest of europe to be fair) with PS3 copies and many that ordered PS3 are not recieving their copies yet. Also all the Tesco ent 'deals' including RDR are pretty irrelevent to many cause i, like many other people, used the 15% code weeks ago. I used mine for Avatar bluray, and many people used theirs for Super Street fighter IV.

Fact is Argos not only does seem to be the only place to get a copy for <£40 on the high street. It is also the cheapest place fullstop. With only Amazon selling it for £35 (looking at find-games). Talk of using tradein deals or once only voucher codes shouldnt come into it.
;-)

Source? Once they've paid the wholesale price they should be able to sell at whatever price they wish.
Why would the developer even care?

Whilst this isn't an outstanding price (I was hoping for £30 in the supermarkets) it definitely seems to be the best option now.
I've 1 reserved for pick up at Hartlepool Argos (xbox360).
Online stock checker said 4 in stock, and now says 3 in stock so I guess that's working accurately.

tempted by this ! although seems to be out of stock near me :(

Pity I have the UK editions of "Tekken 6" (still sealed) [PS3] & "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" [PS3].

The Argos trade-in page shows the North American box art for the PS3 variants:

Oh well, I don't suppose they'll mind! ;)

Thanks for making me aware that Argos' pre-owned business model is now not just restricted to their trial stores, omisnad.

[EDIT]: FYI:
Red Dead Redemption/Split Second/Fifa World Cup 2010 [ Xbox 360 / PS3 ] Only £9.99 when you trade in 2 selected games @ Argos!

Good price for a reserve/pre-order. I ordered mine from Amazon the other day for £34.99, but it now seems they've sold out of the standard edition for PS3. Just got my code for the Golden Gun pack this morning too :-D
#28

play.com have it for £36.99 on both consoles if you are struggling
EDIT- Amazon have it on xbox for £34.99

I preordered this along with Modern Warfare 2 from Argos around a year ago when there was that 20% discount on all game preorders. So it comes to November and I see that Sainsbury's is selling MW2 for £26. I rang up Argos to cancel the entire order, to which the woman confirmed. Then this morning I received my Red Dead -_- . Ah well I can sell to CeX for £35 making around £5 profit :)

So do all argos shops now do the trade ins as my local(Cambridge) wasnt on the list to start with
#33
Thanks, just reserved a copy. As my Zavvi and Amazon pre-orders failed to arrive.
Both Newport Argos stores were showing 5+ remaining.(Xbox 360)

There is a european shortage of the PS3 version.
#34
Hardly any PS3 stock in North West and North Wales - have seen 1 copy left to reserve at Llandudno and Colwyn Bay if this helps anyone.

Searched Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, Wrexham and nothing apart from the 2 copies above.
#35
If anyone hasn't already mentioned this - The 360 version appears to be much better graphically than the PS3 version. If you have the choice between the two consoles, it's probably worth the extra pound from Argos. I have pre-ordered the PS3 version from Tesco Online, I may ask for a 'swap' if at all possible...

I have quite a few friends with both consoles, some of whom have played it on both and whilst it is true that the Xbox does have better graphics... its marginal to say the least!

Buy it on whichever console you have more friends to play online with and dont get too fixated on the graphics issue :-D

I have both consoles but I have bought in on PS3 as most of the people I know with the game are PS3 owners.
#37
Thanks. Reserved one.

Is it really Modern Warfare and not Modern Warfare 2 in the trade-in deal?! The rest of the games seem newer.

Brilliant game, bought it last night and totally hooked on it!

I think the PS3 version might have some exclusive content though.:gift:
