Complete series 1-8 for just £48 delivered (as opposed to full box set price of £99 from Zavvi)

Notoriously, and entirely appropriately, the original outline for Doug Naylor and Rob Grant's comedy SF series Red Dwarf was sketched on the back of a beer mat. When it finally appeared on our television screens in 1988 the show had clearly stayed true to its roots, mixing jokes about excessive curry consumption with affectionate parodies of classic SF. Indeed, one of the show's most endearing and enduring features is its obvious respect for the conventions of SF, even as it gleefully subverts them. The scenario owes something to Douglas Adams's satirical Hitch-Hiker's Guide, something to The Odd Couple and a lot more to the slacker SF of John Carpenter's Dark Star. Behind the crew's constant bickering there lurks an impending sense that life, the universe and everything are all someone's idea of a terrible joke.

Yeah.. £99.99 @ Zavvi is the cheapest I can find for the complete series 1-8 in a box :)

Cheers, heat added. I got 1-4 last time there was a deal on them. Have just ordered 5 and 6. I'm not sure I could bring myself to order 7 and 8.

This is a good price, but they have been about this price in many places (even in pricier retailers like WHS) for months...(tried to watch some of S7 on Dave recently, to see if it was as bad as I remembered. It was worse)

I don't think series seven and eight will ever be cheap enough to justify the purchase for myself. :p

got to admit i was a big fan of this when it was on so started collecting them when they came out, they look really dated now so i ended up getting rid of them, still good price for anyone who wants them

I'm currently in the process of going through all 8 series.
On series 7 at the moment. It's making me cry - and not with laughter.
Absolutely terrible - and that's coming from a fan who queued up to get a signed video a million years ago.

Can anyone comment as to whether the first three series here are the original versions (with plastic models and stuff) or the "Remassacred" versions where they chopped out some of the funny stuff (eg. Cat's mermaid) and put in CGI that looked like the Series 8 version of the ships?

Yeah :thumbsup: series 1-4? => fantastic, 5-6 => Great, 7-8 => Definitely watch 1-6 first!

I'll be going to my best mates birthday party this Saturday and Danny John-Jules (Cat) should be there :p (He's starring my mates new film). I'll be taking the wife so I'm obviously not interested in meeting any of his female stars :whistling:

Not much of a deal for something so old.

Watch it on Dave channel. At no cost. A saving of £6 per series.

Can you ask him about the bin man incident? I'm dying to hear an update about that!

Great idea - have you managed to record any complete series?

Also can you help me out? When I'm watching Red Dwarf on Dave no matter how much I turn my left nipple nut I can't seem to hear the commentaries or see any of the extras.
