Worth mentioning because it's the new Red Dwarf Series, and if you order from Amazon you get the Pre-order Price Guarantee, which means if you order now and the Amazon.co.uk price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you'll be charged the lowest price.

I also think this is a 2 disc set, because if you look on play.com it's listed as being 2 discs, so I imagine this would be the same even though it's listed as being 1 for moment

Why not just watch it on telly first?

I think I'll wait and see how good or bad it is first after that last load of garbage they did.

By the looks of things, it comes out as soon as the series ends, but I'll be Sky+ing every episode anyway, and then burn them to DVD.

when is this on telly and what channel, first i have heard of it and I am a massive fan.....apparently

yep i hope its good but sadly you cant turn the clock back to some of the best TV the bbc has ever done (and for the cost of a couple of Jonathan Ross's suits ;-) ) .. still pretty much timeless today ... though they are as actors too old now and have non of that "rawness" that young unknowns have so i suspect it will be crap like the recent specials

if you havnt seen the original series watch them (over and over) they are really excellent and timeless

I have hope for this series - the trailers are genuinely funny, and it was recorded in front of a live audience, the way it used to be. That was the main thing missing from Back To Earth.

The less said about Back To Earth the better!

Hoping this will be better, time will tell...

The problem with the last couple of series is they ditched the soul of the show and abandoned the intimacy of it for over the top and unnecessary CGI and bigger scale.

Studio audience, episodes built around 1 or 2 sets, simple comedy and all the ships back to clearly being models controlled by a human being.

Those were the symptoms, not the cause. The problem was that Rob Grant left.

Back To Earth was terrible, but I really hope that isn't the case this time around.

As for this deal, I'll refrain on voting it hot or cold as I think it's too early to determine whether it is worth it until after it has aired.

There's an insightful (if a little critical, particularly about continuity errors) thread on http://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=29284.0 about Red Dwarf X that I'm enjoying.

I lost interest when VII came out but enjoying the Dave re-runs. Happy to give X a go.

Agreed. The Grant/Naylor split was such a drop in quality. Embodied by the standard of the books if nothing else. They are just funnier when writing together....fact

That being said I'll still watch it

Definitely have to vote cold now it's cheaper elsewhere.

Will still watch it but I don't expect much. The last two series of Red Dwarf were excruciatingly bad.

You hit the nail on the head there. It had been excellent until that point,

I would urge people to watch this on TV first give it the ratings that Red Dwarf as a series deserves, and then buy it, this show needs rewarding for at least taking the risk of giving us possible closure.
#29
I haven't even watched Bact to Earth as I was told it would make me hate Red Dwarf. I'll be sky plussing this but I think pre ordering a Blur Ray of something which may be awful or brilliant is just mad.
#30
Let's hope it's 50i this time and not 60i otherwise I won't be buying it.
Getting sick of NTSC and 60i becoming the standard system for DVD & BD releases simply because companies are just too 'cheap' to produce 2 masters.
#31
I'll wait, thanks. 7 and 8 were pitifully poor with the odd high moment. BADLY missing Rob Grants input.
"Back to Earth" was appalling, with the odd high moment too.
Looking forward to it, and expecting the worst.

You lost me after "Let's..." oOX)

I'm a big Red Dwarf fan and really looking forward to this.

Historically, I think seasons 1-6 were excellent, 7 was awful and 8 a little bit better. Back to Earth (effectively series 9) didn't work as 3 separate episodes, but was much better when viewed as a film on the DVD.

I'll be buying this anyway (I have all the other series, so the completist in me will buy it even if it's awful) so hot from me......
#34
How as this got so hot?? Not a great price at all. And as has been said, if this is anything like back to earth (which it probably will be!) then it will be barely worth watching for free.
#35
Amazingly, reddwarf555's post above is EXACTLY the way I feel about the various series.

I think 7 was better than 8 if only for the "Rimmer Experience". Also "Tikka to Ride" is one of my favourite episodes!

Out of interest, why does this matter? I'm genuinely curious, as I've always wondered whether to get US NTSC or UK PAL DVDs for the 'truest'/original picture format, which hasn't gone through a conversion process.

the last one back to earth WAS GOOD ....
#39
Aw cmon seriously even if it's REALLY BAD it'll still be better than most of the chaff BBC put on the telly in the last ten years under the heading of "comedy". Two pints of carp and a packet of something that doesn't quite rhyme with crisps? Give me the worst of red dwarf any day. Only problem is, Bottom won't be on before it! Or will it...
#40
All Red Dwarf is good even 'Back to Earth'. Season 7 had episodes like 'Tikka to Ride' which was really funny and clever.
