Set in the west-side of Los Angeles fight world, Redbelt, is the story of Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a Jiu-Jitsu teacher who has avoided the prize fighting circuit, choosing instead to pursue an honorable life by operating a self-defense studio with a samurai's code.

Terry and his wife Sondra (Alice Braga), struggle to keep the business running to make ends meet. An accident on a dark, rainy night at the Academy between an off duty officer (Max Martini) and a distraught lawyer (Emily Moritimer) puts in motion a series of events that will change Terry's life dramatically introducing him to a world of promoters (Ricky Jay, Joe Mantegna) and movie star Chet Frank (Tim Allen). Faced with this, in order to pay off his debts and regain his honor, Terry must step into the ring for the first time in his life.

If people havent seen this, be aware its a talkie David Mamet play with not much Jiu-Jitsu!
Great price for a intelligent movie tho...

im a big martial arts fan (have 300+ martial arts dvd, old/new) and i have to say i didnt really like this film. Dont think it was intelligent to be honest. The "end" fight wasnt great either, and the talkie parts were boring. £6 for a blu ray is good tho, im starting to like the price drop on these at least/

was very dissapointed in this film. namely the ending.
without spoiling it, the concept of the tournament is so far fetched it becomes comical.
buy it on dvd. its hardly a blu ray special effects spectacular.

I think youve got to like David Mamets style - which is a bit odd & wordy (maybe not intelligent LOL )
Chiwetel Ejiofor is always good value though in any movie
