"All Acer Refurb Models come with a 30 Day Warranty"
#4
sorry warranty bit wrong. all else right
banned#5
really good for a HTPC
#6
I don't think i ever saw a PC with a positive score before!

Must be good.
#7
Decent spec at a reasonable price but that 30 day warranty is the killer - Acer don't have the best reputation for reliability and backup (see Which? magazine). I'd want much better cover before I splashed out even this modest amount on an Acer.
#8
Would most people not be likely just to void the warranty anyway by opening it up to putt extra hdds in etc? I was going to build a little pc for the living room but i may just purchase this. Bought a refurb from dabs before, i was very impressed.

opening a pc to upgrade like that shouldn't affect warranty, as it's part of normal use of a pc. it would be like voiding your car warranty if you changed the hubcaps or something

whilst the warranty is 30 days you are still covered by the SOGA so the retailer would be responsible

That's hukd doing that.
#13
Quite a nice one there for the money, you could easily spend £200 upgrading the RAM and the processor, possibly the network card and it'd still be in a similar price range to a lower spec model.

exactly, how do people think HUKD make money....this is for cashback to themselves from all the links we click to buy things

EDIT: dont forget 3% Quidco if it tracks ;)

As it happens I am not looking for a PC. But for the price, the specs are really good. Often when people post PCs in this price range, it is maybe a duo core, possibly has a gig of ram and definitely does not have a graphics card. I do not think that you can get more for your money than this PC.
#16
Can't see where it details the graphics card.

Probably just me...

Graphics Card - nVidea GeForce 8200 256MB
#17
Does this come with Operating System? if so what ?
#18
Doesn't look like there is an OS on it. But it should be compatible with Windows 7.

Great price. Acer have a bad reliability reputation though, so I'd want more than 30 days warranty. So no vote from me.

Possibly. Add a Blu Ray drive for £80. Depends what the case looks like under the telly. And how quiet it is. Comments?

Good deal for what you get.

There are also other refurbs on the site, like a Q6600 one for 280 notes, hot from me as the OP brought this to my attention where I wouldn't normally have thought to look.
#22
Got one of these for the same price a couple of months ago from a comet clearance store. Great spec for the price, very happy with the PC. I chanced my arm and applied for the Windows 7 upgrade through Acer and they sent it to me so you *might* get away with that too (still 12 days left on the offer).

Now that does look like a bargain. Slip in a £40 blu ray drive and and you're laughing.

If your TV needs proping up a brick is cheaper!

Fan noise on these if fairly average - would be noticeable at times.

There are so many variants of this ascer aspire...Jjust found this one WITH BLU RAY for £320.
Main disadvantage - integrated graphics but still generates HDMI. No idea whether Blu Rap playback is smooth or not...

Interesting find, I notice they offer a 12 month warranty as well, could be important to some.

"What do I do if my product develops a fault within the first 12 months?
Your Acer product is protected by a 12 month hardware warranty."

Dont rely on 2 year old reviews for performance today, this was reviewed well as it was cheap and thats about it, for a little more you can get a lot better nowadays. I just bought a Q8400 quad core for £299 with Windows 7 64 bit and all the bells and whistles of a new machine. Pays to look around. Also bear in mind if you are putting anything else in it the first thing you will need to buy is a new PSU, and a decent micro atx power supply with the right connections can be hard to come buy, also they are normally low wattage / amperage. Nice looking box though :-) *think you can buy the barebones system also for about £100 most places put your own stuff in*

Can you give some extra info as to what and where you bought such a system please.
I am in the market for a new PC and would be interested in something around the £300 mark.

Thanks.

Very interested in the BluRay system. However, with it being a "space saving desktop" do you think there will be enough room in the case for another Sata hard drive?

And I'd echo the comment from starwarsclark. I'd be all over that spec for £300!!! Missed out on the Aldi deal from a couple of weeks ago. Something similar would be great.

No. But but there is an eSATA conenctor on the back.

And I was talking crap when I said it had integrated graphics. It does BUT also has an nVidia GeForce G100 Dedicated Graphics - 512MB. I assume this is good enough to drive a 1080p monitor with no problems !?

I was thining about waiting for the next Aldi deal, but I think I'm going to plump for this blu ray system now.

It's £5 or so cheaper than the last Aldi deal (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/572480/medion-akoya-pc-x7330-d-349-99-aldi)(when you get it delivered and upgrade to Windows 7), but the the processor is worse, and the HD is half the size. However, it has Bluray (by my reckoning that's about £30 more expensive than a DVD drive), the Ram is DDR3 and can be upgraded to 8 Gig (according to this http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/desktop-computers/acer-aspire-x3300/). And it's a small form factor. Whilst this will be my main PC at the moment, I could imagine using it as a multimedia PC later down the line at some stage.

Also, you can't guarantee the next Aldi deal will be as good or that I'll be in the queue early enough!!

Thanks so much for pointing out this deal!

im very interested in this computer however i dont know the following:
what motherboard is it?
ie.
what type of graphics can be added (PCI-E or?)

how much memory does it support? (4gb/6gb/8gb?) (800mhz,1033mhz?)

Good spot! I noticed that many of the Aspire refurbs on Dabs were cheaper on Acer Direct but all the ones I found were out of stock.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Unfortunately, opening the case of an Acer does invalidate the warranty - bought one new for my lad and it had security stickers all over it, and a warning about the warranty in the box. Bit the bullet anyway to throw some extra RAM in; fortunately, it lasted 12 months with no problems.

I think it would be interesting if someone challenged this through the courts! The car analogy mentioned above is valid and a car manufacturer would have to show that any modification was the likely cause of a failure before they could wriggle out of it. Changing the radio in a new car does not let the manufacturer off the hook if the gearbox fails in 6 months.

That said, what is the obsession with buying computers to modify them straight away (I can understand upgrading an older one to give it a second lease of life)? Just buy one that meets your needs in the first place, or indeed build your own perfect machine if you have the knowledge. The components industry must be making a fortune out of unnecessary kit.
