Good price but only a third generation i5 circa 2012 (current model is 7th gen!)

We still have a few of these kicking around the office, stick a SSD in it and they still decent machines.

These are great machines and in terms of raw CPU power probably similar to the latest generation - because recent improvements are in power consumption rather than speed.

I think this is too expensive though, I got a 8460p a year ago for less than half this (there isn't a big difference). Mine has a great battery but it's always a risk as to what you will get with something this age.

Yes, these are very good machines but heavy.
After Haswell, the went for extra thin (Elitebook 840 G1/G2/G3 etc.), but these were built like tanks. The 14" isn't too bad (about the same weight as Thinkpad T430), but the 15" is closer to 3KG which is about 500-600g more than a Thinkpad T530.
Anyway, the going rate for these is around £150-£170 for these, so cold based on price.

Very cold, you can get them from ebay for £140 - £160!

Cold because better spec for less on eBay. Just make sure you purchase one without the BIOS being password protected.

Regardless of generation, these will still hold up. The 2600k (Sandy bridge) still holds up against Haswell and co.

So you "claim" a better spec but you... don't... actually link one? Feel free to backup your claim with evidence...

Much cheaper as others have said on eBay and other refurb outlets. The other day I was reviewing one that was on offer with half the RAM and a slightly smaller hard drive for £120.

Current eBay listings for UK based 8470p laptops: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_nkw=8470p&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

Several BIN ones for around £130 to £145 delivered. Other prices too depending on seller, condition and hardware.

I bought during the beginning of Dec 2016 for £140 + £14.99 P&P (Buy Now listing) a 8470p i5-3380M with 500GB HDD and 8GB RAM inc power supply and battery lasting 3 hours, with Windows 7 installed and COA Certificate still on Laptop from a seller on eBay. The BIOS was not password protected. After receiving the laptop I discovered on the HP website it is still under its 3 year warranty until the end of May this year. Laptop is in top condition too.
