I just snapped one of these up. 12 months warranty and from £54.99 for an iPhone 5! Obviously price varies depending on colour, storage capacity, network and condition; however mine is a 'good' condition model, locked to EE, finished in white with 16gb storage, which I think would be a great backup (what I'm using it for) for a contract phone or a good start to smartphone ownership.

£5 DISCOUNT APPLIED IN BASKET

Prices are as follows (not including discount):
White, 16gb, EE, Good: £59.99 *
Black, 16gb, EE, Good: £64.99 *
Black, 16gb, O2, Good: £84.99
Black, 32gb, O2, Good: £129.99
White, 32gb, O2, Good: £109.99
Black, 32gb, O2, Very Good: £149.99
Black, 32gb, Vodafone, Good: £109.99
White, 16gb, Vodafone, Very Good: £104.99
Black, 16gb, Vodafone, Very Good: £109.99
White, 16gb, Unlocked, Good: £94.99
White, 16gb, Unlocked, Very Good: £109.99
Black, 16gb, Unlocked, Good: £94.99
Black, 16gb, Unlocked, Very Good: £109.99
Black, 32gb, Unlocked, Good: £114.99
Black, 32gb, Unlocked, Very Good: £149.99
White, 32gb, Unlocked, Good: £119.99
White, 32gb, Unlocked, Very Good: £149.90
White, 64gb, Unlocked, Good: £139.99
Black, 64gb, Unlocked, Good: £119.99 *
Black, 64gb, Unlocked, Very Good: £154.99

Prices aren't very consistant; however I have put a start next to the ones that are really cheap in my opinion. Music magpie are a good retailer on eBay and give you a screen protector, lightning cable, sim removal tool and screen cloth with the iPhones.

This just seemed unusually cheap to me. I was only looking for a phone to use as a sat nav and music player so I don't need to use all of battery in my S7 edge and it was A LOT cheaper than others on eBay (excluding all of those that are obviously stolen).

Just remember that there are no more software updates from Apple for these.

They're cheap because they are 4 year old phones.

Yes; however they are still capable devices and do serve a purpose today. This still does 80-90% of what the iphone 7 does.

With iP SE avail from £150ish I can't see how this makes sense.

They do, the way apple and samsung bring out these new phones nowadays is a joke.

You seriously cannot see why a phone almost a third of the price of the one you've suggested makes sense? Good lord...

Yes they do.

It's an iPhone 5 so it will run the latest version of as fluidly as the iPhone 7, albeit a tad slower in places.

The camera is perfectly capable for a phone as you still have a **** lens and a small image sensor - hence the images look relatively crap anyway.

You don't have a fingerprint sensor but is it so hard to enter a pin?

You have a smaller screen; however wouldn't stop you doing anything really.

There might be some software differences such as split view; however what ordinary users actually use them anyway?

Honestly I would say an S5 can do much of the same stuff as my S7 it just comes down to consumerism. It's not my fault that Apple customers can't see the small differences from one model to the next...

I agree. The only reason I have an S7 edge is because I have a contract otherwise I would have a note 3 or a HTC one M8 and honestly if my phone was to break I would buy one and it would not make a difference to my day to day phone usage.

There was a deal on the 16 posted. Fwiw the deal is hot because of the price but as pointed out it's now stale as I don't expect any more OS updates and hence apps will also tail off over time as they're updated.

Is the 5 better than the 5C
Been watching a few C's go through on ebay for around 50 quid

Batteries a bit worn out? 5c is more colourful and doesn't need a case, so wins big time in my book. My 5 is 4 years old and has a worn battery. Probably useable for another 12 months tops. The cameras from the 4s onward are not very far apart in daylight use.

in my opinion, if you wanted a cheap back up phone or work phone (my work phone is a lumia 550, which i hate, this would be worth switching), this is a good deal.

My 5 is four and a half years old and the battery is well past its best. Standby is still good but it drains very quickly with use. Think it's been confirmed that the 5 won't get iOS 11 later this year. Fine as a backup though.

That's probably true but I don't see that being an issue as I have an iPad Air 2 on iOS 8.4 jailbroken and have only found two apps that won't run on it (Bully and the Apple Store/Support app). So iOS 10 should be fine for everything else for a while, I would have thought the processor would be a bigger bottleneck before the iOS version.

Done this and hardly made any difference. Who knows if the batteries are genuine or new!

Huh? This phone came out 5 years ago and is still perfectly usable today. How much lifespan do people want ?

Trouble is finding an iPh5 battery that doesn't have fake ebay reviews or real ones saying it was re-used rubbish. Apple sells them at £70, but that's halfway to a new phone.

You forgot the most important bit, like all phones it can make calls and texts no matter how much you pay for it.
#32
Damn good deal
#33
I never updated mine past iOS 7 and it's still buttery smooth unlike any Android phone after one year regardless of the OS version.
People stating this won't get any updates, you don't say for a phone that will be 5yo soon.
#34
fantastic find op! many thanks
#35
Be aware that iOS 10.3.1 is the last software update for this phone.

Planned obsolescence 100%.

Apple are pushing 64 bit apps and will be purging 32 bit ones. There's a message on the latest iOS update that states 32 bit apps won't work on the next version of iOS. As such it's reasonable to assume developers will only be developing 64 bit apps, meaning all software updates will only be to 64 bit devices. Why would developers support apps on devices 4+ years old - the bottom end don't buy much so low revenue. So don't be surprised when apps stop working in some way and get pulled from the store. Just be aware of that prior to purchase.

Almost exactly the same as the 5 but it has a plastic back and is about 1.mm thicker.

Great effort, voted hot!

Slightly on topic... Can anyone recommend a cheap iphone model that is very current and not due to become obsolete? I need one for dev testing, but dont want to spend much or find it no longer receives the latest updates a few months later

Thanks in advance
