People don't like Toshiba it seems - I ordered one when I posted my deal and it arrived today...
I've not had a chance to fully evaluate it (the BIOS update is a must apparently) but I'd definitely say it was worth £135!

Heat from me :)

Do not buy. They crash all the time and then you have to reinstall.

Bubaman - did yours come with a valid Office license?

The new versions of these are out now, but insanely, there's a base model with only 1GB RAM instead of the original 2GB, so these seem like even better value now.

It does have Office preinstall files but no key :( - looks like I'll have to message the seller.
Edit - in fact, I've asked for a £50 partial refund - lets see how that goes :)

It's a bit chunkier, heavier and not as good looking as my Dell Venue 8 but it has the all-important (for me) HDMI-out.
I want to use it as a desktop occasionally - I've tried a few docks with the but none seem to like Windows 8.1 for video so I'll probably sell the Dell if all is well with the Encore.

The price is good, but the device is just not staple.

Ordered mine from ebuyer few months ago, but it keeps blue screen.

Cheers, thanks for the answer. The lack on hdmi-out on the Dell really is a bit of a let-down, because it's great in most other respects.

I don't think there is a bios update before.

Space is a issue.
blue screen crashes i had 3 in a week.
sort these issues out and it would be good, but i sent mine back, got sick of reinstalling.
#11
Cracking price IF the latest bios solves the issues.
#12
for this price I've taken the gamble. I can already see space annoying me though.

Redirect Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos to an NTFS-formatted Class 10 64GB SDXC card, change install paths for everything that isn't run at startup and keep an eye on Windows Store apps.
Don't attempt to move the store to D: as suggested in some forums - Windows 8.1 doesn't like it at all and no Metro apps will work.

There is no separate key for MS Office. It is a single product key for Windows 8 and MS Office H&S. There was a leaflet where this licence product key label was stuck on in a bag with a number of other warranty leaflets for me. However mine was brand new that I bought from eBuyer and was not a refurb. Are you saying that you are missing this leaflet? The licence product key was for Windows 8.1 Small Screen Touch with Home & Student 2013.

Had not thought of that one so very good plan indeed, It will be interesting to see if the SSD is changeable as I can't see to find a teardown of it. Perhaps I will just have to do one!

To be honest though, for this kind of money all I care about is a bit of browsing on the sofa, if it can do that better than my phone and more comfortably than my laptop then I will be happy

I would imagine the storage space is not an SSD but memory chips integrated into the motherboard, that tends to be the norm for Tablet construction as it's cheaper and more reliable.

Is there any 3G version of this?
#22
As I commented on the other thread, I had three of these, all with the same issues. Fine for a few days. then started locking up, unreposnsive touchscreen, couldn't wake from sleep... not good. Toshibas response is simply to hard reset them all lose everything. Which to be fair, DOES make it work again! For a few days anyway, until you start installing stuff again...

Got a refund, got a dell, happy now.

There is a reason there are so many of these doing the rounds on the cheap...

My problem is also poor customer service . Promises call backs and hours on phone to address issues
#24
So what about the unit crashing ? What should be done?
#25
They seem to want you to pay extra for the most basic warranty which should come with it automatically. Is it worth the risk ?

They use eMMC and I'm not sure how easy they are to swap out.
They're more powerful than their price suggests and although they won't run the latest 3D games, there's loads of indie games and a massive back-catalogue of x86 games and apps that will work.
I've had C&C Generals, Ableton, Reason, etc running on the Venue perfectly (Generals did make it a bit warm though) :)

I've even had a play with Genymotion to cover the shortfall of Windows store apps but there's a few too many quirks so I won't be getting rid of my Nook HD just yet.

According to PC Pro, 9:26 light use, 10:03 video playback.

That really is a super cheap tablet for the money, I got an Onda V975M a month ago at £125 from China with a similar spec but Android based, wish I'd waited for this to come along in a way...
#30
Can you use a normal mouse and keyboard with it ? Will this run steam and any pc games ? Would it run the original company of heroes ?
#31
Can't see what the warranty is on this?

Hot from me well worth the money

I dont think they have stock. Cant add to basket. If they work it has to be great for the money.

i think miix2 is better coz its new, as there is 50 pound cash back from lenovo,
2 years guaranty from jlp,
25 £ gift card from amazon

i ordered lenovo,
anyway lenovo is better company then Toshiba for real

Spec wise they look good, but software wise they seem to be a nightmare if you want to personalize it, if you don't like windows 8 then tough because you can't put 7 on it. Hot price but Freezing Cold for the product which is a shame :(

Actually if you use a utility to find your Windows 8 product key you will find it is different to the Office one. I bought a 64GB one of these a few months ago for £200 and sold the product key on for £75 making the 64GB tablet only £125 (less ebay fees). Office worked fine with the product key on a different computer (not just for tablets).

The main problem is no HDMI out on the Lenovo or Dell. Similarly, the Lenovo seems to only support MicroSDHC, meaning you cannot go above 32GB.

I've not bothered with any of these though. I'll probably wait for a decently priced one with what I want, which is basically a Dell Venue with HDMI.
