Just how low will ebay prices have to go now ;)
#2
Only 9 to 15% discount off the new lower retail price - I was hoping for a bigger reduction!
#3
Good deal, but I reckon if you can wait a little longer prices will drop more as the Ipad 2 is due to come out very soon.

This is the reason that these drops have happened.

Would rather spend the extra for a brand new one,

Oh will this play bbc iplayer hd?

Seeing as how lacklustre the specs are on the ipad 2 (ipad 1.1), there's no shame in getting a 1st gen for good money (other than the shame of being a posing ponce with more money than sense)

Still VASTLY overpriced for what it actually is, but that's just Apple's business model.

I don't agree. Look at the competition who are struggling to put out a similar spec for the same price.

Isn't the Motorola Xoom a similar price? Wasn't the Galaxy Tab roughly the same price too (until they realised no-one was buying it)?

How do you conclude it's overpriced based on the market?

refurb 16gb ones are back to £289 on the apple site.

Like it or not Apple are very sucessful at releasing something at an inflated price for it only to be superseeded by something within a short space of time with 1 of the missing features added. They will repeat this as they know some people are stupid enough to buy the same thing time and time again.

As for the deal hot as i have not seen one cheaper even though i do feel like they are overpriced much rather have a Xoom.

Your wrong, it's cos of Apple that others manufacturers now feel that they can also rip us off.

you get all the below for the SAME price as the iPAD. So the prices of the original are going to plummet... better holding on for a few weeks

1. iPad 2 is lighter and thinner

Apple called it an all-new design. And it is. The main physical thing is that the new iPad is thinner - 33 per cent thinner, clocking it at 8.8mm. Incredibly, that's thinner than the iPhone 4 which clocks in at 9.3mm. It's also 15 per cent lighter, which is welcome. You wouldn't want it to be completely lightweight, but a bit less weight is good. It's also available in white as well as the original black.

2. The iPad 2 has FaceTime

The new iPad has the expected front-facing VGA camera (as well as one on the back). What's the point of the one on the back? Like the iPhone 4's rear snapper, it takes 720p video. And that's enough for us.

3. The iPad 2 battery life stays the same

The iPad 2's battery life is apparently not limited by the new design - it has the same 10 hour battery life as before, with a month of standby time (tsk, real-world figures please). Still, that's quite impressive when you think about the reduced size of the unit.

4. As does the iPad 2 display

The new iPad has a 9.7-inch display which, yep, is exactly the same. So the large-scale retina display wasn't ready as we suspected. iPad 3 should sort that one out.

5. iPad 2 goes dual-core

A few months ago, a dual-core processor would have made headlines. Now they're 10-a-penny and in many an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet. The new processor is called the Apple A5 and is based on ARM's Cortex-A9 design. And it's probably clocked at 1GHz again.

6. iPad 2 graphics will be awesome

All Steve Jobs said was that the graphics capability would be 9x that of the current iPad. WOW! All he said? That promises serious gaming awesomeness (and it helps that the device now also has the gyroscope from the iPhone 4 and latest-gen iPod touch). The graphics will still be some version of Imagination Technologies' PowerVR SGX graphics technology.

7. iPad 2 has iOS 4.3

The latest version of iOS ships with the iPad and will be available for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch on 11 March. There's faster Safari browsing performance; iTunes Home Sharing and thankfully an enhancement to AirPlay. Let's hope it works now. (By the way, iPhone 4s can act as Wi-Fi hotspots too).

8. The stupid button problem has been fixed

When the first iPad came out, the switch on the side locked the orientation. Super cool, everybody thought. Except Apple did a typical Apple thing and changed it to become a mute button. When there was already a volume control on the other side of the device. iOS 4.3 gives you the choice about what to do. That's what happens when you listen to your customers. Thanks, Apple.

9. The iPad 2 has HDMI out

It will set you back around £30 for the cable, but you can connect your iPad up to the TV and charge it while doing so. What's more you can have HDMI Video Mirroring that lets you mirror your iPad screen on an HDTV. Cool for presentations and the like – or just playing movie content.

10. The iPad 2 features HSUPA

The iPad 2 also features HSUPA support. That means faster browsing and downloads over 3G. Like mobile broadband. It's only available on the iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, naturally. Expect this to come to the iPhone in the next update too.

11. The iPad 2 UK release date is 25 March

Apple has announced that the Apple iPad 2 UK release date is 25 March. T-Mobile and Orange told TechRadar they are stocking iPad 2 "when it becomes available later this month". O2 told us it wouldn't be selling the new tablet but would be offering data plans for it, while Vodafone offered a stern "no comment". Thanks for the clarity there. As iPad 2 costs the same in the US as the original iPad, expect the models to start at £439 here.

12. iPad 2 sees Apple come out fighting

As well as some serious gnashing of teeth at competitors during Steve Jobs' keynote, even the press release gets nasty. "While others have been scrambling to copy the first generation iPad, we're launching iPad 2, which moves the bar far ahead of the competition and will likely cause them to go back to the drawing boards yet again." Unfortunately though, it's just not true. In terms of specs – if not looks – the latest Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets are a match for the new iPad.

So all the tablet manufacturers are 'ripping us off'?

How on earth does it make iPads overpriced if the other manufacturers are pricing similar products at similar levels?

Does the lack of flash bother you or make a noticeable difference when browsing Marky?

Apples marketing is fabulous - I recently purchased an Ipod touch because of clever marketing and I have to say disappointed with it's lack of features - gps for one.
If you like Apple products go for it - if you want flexability/functionality wait a bit - loads of new stuff coming soon, on much better platforms.
If only they could all be sold Jail Breaked mmm

I don't think you can blame Apple's marketing for you not bothering to read the tech specs page on their website. :|

Apple declare 10's of billions of dollars of profits each year. Markup on this device is enormous ( http://www.isuppli.com/Teardowns/News/Pages/Mid-RangeiPadtoGenerateMaximumProfitsforApple,iSuppliEstimates.aspx).
Of course it's vastly over priced but Apple customers do not buy based on cost. Frankly I get a little confused when i see any Apple product on a 'deals' website.

The closest equivalent I am aware of that is on the mass market is the Advent Vega - at 249 - it has some advantages like SD / USB, but less memory out of the box, and the hardware / software is less polished.

As such 289 seems quite competitive, and so I vote hot.

In an absolute sense, 289 can buy you a nice laptop and so tablets as a whole do seem expensive.

True - BUT some things you take for granted - you can't even use it's bluetooth to connect to an external GPS - Apple are too closed!

The Vega also has Flash, Apple doesn't. I asked Marky earlier if that impacted on his browsing experience because personally I can't see how it wouldn't. Nearly all online game sites are flash based so there's a whole section of the joys of the internet that you cannot enjoy with an iPad.

Don't get me wrong, I love the smooth interface of the iPad but it's like the bloody thing is handcuffed not running flash..... and yes I know there are 'work arounds' but you shouldn't have to do that.

I'm sure Argos sell weights sets for much less than £300 ;)

Great price but £300 to browse the internet and be stuck behind a walled garden?
I gave mine to my dad, he loves it and I do feel it is perfect for him, IPads are fun but generally they are for the slightly computer retarded, if you are one of those then run run run to your refurbished iPad, if not, bah, there really isn't much point wasting your money on an old tablet, or possibly even a new one for that matter! ha

Woah, harsh burn there.

I'm always amazed by those who try to assert there's some intellectual cache to owning a Windows or Linux machine.

Decent price, but until the flash issue gets sorted out I'm not gonna take the plunge.

Not even for games. More for the videos, seeing as the majority of video sites use flash these days. And no, I'm not talking about Youtube.

I don't think he's saying he's a PC genius because he's using Windows. I think his point (which I would agree with) is that the ipad is designed to be as simple as possible so even a small child could use it, at the cost of any functionality that you would get with a laptop (pc or mac).

Personally I think ipads are a complete waste of space and money because they're just a big iphone. I also despise how controlling apple is, but people will still flock to them because they've managed to create that buzz and want. However, even though they're still overpriced for what they are, this is a good deal.

Finally, I think this comic sums up apple very well:

Apple will never incorporate flash in their iDevice lineups. Far too much of a power ****. Heck, even on my 13" MBP it reduces the battery life to around 2 hours.... down from 8-10.

1. Is a laptop as portable as a tablet? No where close. People use iPads for work related tasks, such as presenting powerpoints, or other media. Just because you dont have a use for them doesnt mean theyre pointless.

2. I'd like to see you try and make a call from it. Until you actually use one, you'll realise just how different they are from iPhone's/iPod Touch.
