Agree I'd go brand new rather than save only a few quid on refurb, however the 1st gen touch at £105 is quite a bit cheaper than brand new 2nd gen, if you can cope with losing bluetooth, new shape, minorly faster cpu and external speaker ... and especially if you need to gain charging compaitbility with older periperhals (such as some in-car ipod docks) without paying another £20 for a charging dongle.

Correction...

The new iPod Touch is all but certainly coming out in September, but having a microphone and a camera is just an unsubstantiated rumour which may end up not being true as many Apple related rumours end up being.

I find it quite disturbing you are spouting this stuff as if it is a cast iron fact already confirmed by Apple. Granted, this may well come true in time, maybe it is even a shoe in, but you have written it as if it is a fact when it is not.

don't expect something like that until well into 2010/11
#13
Yaay!

Its good to know that Apple dont just overpice new products for mugs. They do it with 2nd hand gear as well and call it 'refurbished'

That Steve Jobs is a true world hero.

Oh dear its only a bit of plastic and metal.

Hardly something to get all disturbed about now is it?

With an identical warranty to a new one and less chance of being DOA as it will have been checked over.
#16
And yet still second hand despite the marketing spiel.

What a load of utter nonsense. Thats like saying I should be paying nearly new prices for a 2nd hand car because it will have been checked by the dealer's mechanics.

2nd hand goods are 2nd hand goods no matter how you look at it and should be priced accordingly.

It seems that depreciation isnt a word that is recognised by apple as they do this with their computers as well.

cold. not saving a great deal at all. friend got a display model 16gb v2 off amazon for 160 few weeks ago

Refurb items are often unsold stock, especially after new models get introduced.

It's a statement of fact that the warranty is identical to that for a new one. The fact that it will have been checked over is pretty negligible I grant you but it is more likely to save you the bother of returning a lemon.

22% reduction isn't that shabby. Whether the original price was a good deal is another matter...;-)

Apple refurbs are widely recognised as the best way to get a machine, though the UK store's selection is not a patch on the US one.

Well, there you go then, Apple should Make it,Break it,Refurb it and increase there reliability ten fold in the process, And then sell them all at new prices, everyone's a winner.
#25
good rough guide on when to buy things and when to be a bit cautious of new releases can be found here.
#26
Not that interested in a Touch with a mic/camera I just want a 64GB model... any chance?

If you buy a 2nd hand car they won't have replaced key components with barnd new ones (battery, casing, phones, leads etc) would they? 2nd hand and refurbished are quite different and they are priced accordingly. I wouldn't start picking on Apples understanding of English until you get a grip yourself.;-)

If you want one of these then it is a good deal as you'll find them for similar prices 2nd hand (as in ebay) with no warranty. If you don't the stop whinging about it and go find a deal you like.
#28
2nd hand = used before
refurbished = used before with damaged/marked components changed were deemed necessary.
If you think refurbished = last years model coming out of a stock room, well, id say thats a one in a million shot were apple are concerned. A car would have had the core components changed that were necessary for safe motoring as in an m.o.t , its not really the best comparison but is still a viable one.

Lets not colour this anyother way than what it is , its a secondhand ipod that has had any blemished or damaged parts changed ............... for an extorionate price ,if your willing to pay that price and want an ipod then cool go for it , most people have sense though thankfully.
#29
dont know what all the fuss is about, take a look on ebay i was after 1 a while back and even the second hand ones with scratches were going for over a ton! yes and you take a bigger chance there than with apple iam sure ,if it arrives as good as new with 12 months warranty seems ok with me,or spend another 50 and get a brand new one if you have the budget, either way if buying of ebay expect to pay at least that as i found out,
#30
if this price for an iphone, i will go for it :D
#31
interesting... just ordered one for my little bro.. thanks
#32
The Nanos seem to have been overlooked. Is that not a cracking price for a current gen nano?
#33
I would recomend you people not to buy this coz the 3g will be releasing In September. If yu do get a brand new iPod remember to get invisible shield. XD
#34
lol this isn't a "deal"

Next gen would probably be very expensive initially, unlike the upgrade from 1st gen to 2nd gen iTouch. This is pretty good deal, but it will be even cheaper towards August. There is always something better around the corner, its just depends if you really need it now.

The 3rd gen has cover the cost of whole new OMAP 3 hardware platform, which is likely to more expensive than current ARM 11 chipset; not to mention the RRP would have to be expensive enough, not to affect iPhone 3Gs sales.
