+1 . g/f bought this for herself. I wanted to get a entry level Ipad , but decided in favor of one super sweet netbook with led + hdmi , etc, etc. for much better price than the ipad . madness !!!!

although I lust for kindle as well :( just because of the e-ink

Why are there so many refurbished ones? (having said that - I bought one of them and it is fine for what she needs) Hot!

For reference, mine was a refurb... battery life is about 2 hours.

Most people who bought the Kindle got it purely for reading and I know it goes on for about 3 weeks on a single charge....MAdness???

Try reading books on the Train in the Bus on the netbook and see if its madness or not!!!!!

Any other info on battery life? Or are replacements available cheap enough?

I looked around at spares and they seemed to be around £35-45... I've ended up only using mine around the house though, so it's no bother to plug it in.

I don't know whether it's common with all netbooks, but it doesn't tend to like streaming videos very well unless it's plugged in.

Our refurb black one (same model, from argos also) gets a good 6+ hrs battery life with eco mode enabled.

On every restart you have to manually re-enable eco mode - annoyingly, it doesnt just stick with it until changed.

In 'normal' mode you get about 3-4hrs.

I got the black one, haven't changed any settings and I get around 4 hours of normal web browsing. charges pretty quick too. For the money and for simple internet / email use I think it's a steal. Mine appeared brand new as well. Would recommend. Have also order external dvd drive for 18 quid off amazon.

manufacturer refurbished is essentially brand new, when will people stop whinging about refurbed as if it is some heavily used and soiled piece of 3rd hand crap.

Yes, refurbs by and large have probably been used by someone before being returned to manufacturer for whatever reason. Once refurbed however, they are essentially back to new and have been put that way by the manufacturer.

For a site dedicated to savings and good deals, it seems strange so many aren't aware wtf a refurb really is.

for £138 this is a mega deal.

no details if this is the 4 or 6 cell battery, presumably though, as it states 7 hr this is the 6 cell, but as with all batteries, the load placed on it will determine the battery life between charges. As with all batteries on netbooks and laptops, certain things will greatly diminish this life, such as wifi, high screen brightness, bluetooth etc etc.

To suggest a refurb battery would struggle on the basis of it being a refurb machine is ludicrous to suggest, the battery is either in working order or it isn't, as such it will achieve whatever life these batteries do achieve under differing operating circumstances.

This is a hot deal and voted as such.

This was nine quid less last week - and if the battery lives are as poor as the 2 hours claimed with forty quid for a replacement - another fortyish would get you a new N550 powered netbook with a new battery and decent life.

It looks cold now.

My U130 has a turbo battery mode, which on a 6 cell that I bought from Ebay @ £20 runs for 5/6 hours max.

2 hrs battery life says nothing. under what circumstances was the 2 hrs battery life achieved? what cell number is the battery that achieved a 2 hr life? was the user online, with full screen brightness, using blue tooth and playing a game or using other graphically intensive apps?

2 hrs battery life means nothing on its own.

Furthermore, whats this distinction about new battery? the battery supplied with a refurb could very well be new, could very well have never ever been used, could have been a total piece of crap which is why the product was returned in the first place, in which case the manufacturer refurb process would replace that battery with a new one.

Geez, people are dumb.

Edited By: dazzer1975 on Mar 23, 2011 16:52: typo, probably more, deal with it.

Not necessarily, I bought a refurbed netbook from Argos Outlet that had a huge scratch on the lid.

They seem to be charging more because it's a white model. We got our black one on Monday and are happy with it. It may say refurb, but it was absolutely mint - not a mark on it anywhere. I know some people have had problems but you can return them if you aren't happy. You won't want to write a novel on it, but for web surfing and playing Club Penguin my kids love it.

I've said this a couple of times before, but I would be quite happy with another refurb from the Argos outlet because you still get 12 months warranty (PC World refurbs are 3 months only IIRC) and the refurb/warranty company, DJ Henry, were very good when we needed the charger fixing on my sons Argos Zoostorm netbook. Just a loose wire but collected free, fixed/replaced and returned within a week.

like any netbook the battery life is dependent on how you use it. i get just over 6 hours using it in eco mode. theres also a setting in the bios (performance) which you could lower to 1 star and squeeze a bit more battery life out of it.

mine had a dodgy keyboard but within a week the refurbishing company (DJHenry) sorted it and sent it back at no extra cost. works a charm now.

p.s. doesnt have bluetooth

Great price, pity about the seller.

I bought an MSI Wind U130 Netbook last September.
Shortly afterwards I installed a RAM upgrade chip to improve the speed of the machine.
I checked with the manufacturer (MSI) about the upgrade as you have to break the warranty seal to get into the machine. They said that it was fine to upgrade the RAM as long as no other damage was done and it would not invalidate the Warranty.
Everything was fine with it and I was very pleased with the netbook.
Last week a fault occurred with the display.
With Argos clearance laptop returns are with d&j Henry. When I phoned them to arrange a repair I asked them if I should remove the extra Ram chip before I sent it back, and they said as I had broken the warranty label the warranty was now invalid! They would not budge even though I told the them manufacturer had OK'd the upgrade.
I phoned argos clearance about it and they said the warranty was voided also.
So buyer beware don't open the back to upgrade or the warranty is voided.

Another post where you do not seem to have a clue what on earth you are on about.

I actually know what I am talking about with reference to this netbook. I purchased a refurb about a month ago on here for a similar price. Having purchased a Eeepc 900 when they were first released this is a dream!!

6 cell battery, as new condition. There is even a performance setting under the bios which you can crank the FSB up a bit. (runs faster at cost to battery life)

Don't listen the humpty dumpty Ibiza, this is a bargain. HOT HOT HOT
