the cheap ones are for the US market. AT&T, Verizon, etc.

The "global" one is £404.

They'll still work in the UK and the only difference is the Snapdragon 820 and not Exynos. At least that's what sites say.

Correct me if I'm wrong obviously, but it's idiotic to vote it cold based on that, unless it affects anything else I don't know of?

Usually there's a RAM difference too. Well, from what I remember about previous Galaxy phones and the Notes. Anyway, this is from China? So tax?

Not necessarily, the Chinese phones usually don't have Band 20 (4G), in the US the bands are different from UK too and for a certain provider (don't remember which one) the phones don't have GSM (2G) but CDMA. US devices often don't have Wifi channels 12 and 13 because that is not approved for use there.

Personally I wouldn't risk it: there's above potential issues, will cost a ton to send it back if it doesn't work and you risk getting stung by import duty/VAT

So is the conclusion that it looks too good to be true for the UK market, because it is?

Do not buy refurbished phone from aliexpress. I bough Sony xperia z1 compact and turns out to be a fake inside. If you want to buy a phone from ther buy xiaomi or other chinese brands
