This is a refurbished product that is visually 'as new' at £109 (but I have added the VAT to be fair)
The refurb is from TomTom and they are packaged and sealed in original box
This batch have a label that states that they do not contain latest map guarantee.
HOWEVER, I called TomTom and they assured me that ANY GPS supplied from TomTom factories whether new or refurbished (not ex-demo though) now has latest map guarantee.
TomTom even emailed me to confirm this - so I bought one.

First you need to update to the latest operating system/firmware (dead easy).
You then need to go to the TOOLS and elect for 'latest map guarantee' option.
TomTom verify the electronic serial number and allow the latest map download.

I know this works as I've just done it and I had no problem at all - map v 8.25 up and running. This effectively gives this 520 the same functionality as the 530 therefore saving you at minimum of £70

I hope this is of use and saves some people some money - there are only 25 showing in stock.

I can't find any vouchers for a spend of this much.

Recommend refurbs from total pda, got a 910 last year for £100, it froze every now and again when it arrived but after I reformatted the disk it has worked perfectly and saved me a fortune also came with a 1 year warranty.

Before Xmas they were at £99+VAT and so the price increase is out of line with the market generally. It's also a little misleading to say that the updated map turns it into a 530. The 530 has more internal memory and a longer battery life. It also has a different look created by the updated operating system.

You can create the same look as the 530 by installing a hacked firmware. You might also find useful information on updating maps if you go to the forums at ipmart. As a result of these things, it remains a good deal but I expect TotalPDA will reduce the price back down to the pre-xmas level over the next few weeks.

Great deal - bought one of these a couple of months ago at this price - updated the firmware to the latest version and got the latest maps guarantee. Honestly can't tell any difference from the 530 in practice (not using any hacked firmware).

The voucher code 'find-satnav-deals' still seems to be working for free delivery too.

it's not just the maps you update, when I bought bought my 520 and pluged it into computer it gave me the option to upgrade firmware, which includes the features of the 530 such as IQ routes so effectively it did become a 530 then as far as I'm concerned.

expensive, so cold sorry

bought this exact one (from somewhere else) before xmas at £99, was a refurb too and did include the latest map gaurantee.

Currently running the latest 540 navcore and latest maps (direct from TOMTOM), excellent product though, so if you dont mind paying the price well worth it.

You're wrong.
The operating system (firmware - whatever) on this can be upgraded to the same as a 530. It will then have the same functionality as the 530 (and this was confirmed by the TomTom chap).
The smaller internal memory is not relevant unless you install other additional large maps - in which case you can insert an SD card.
I doubt the price will drop again - they are selling quicker than they can buy them. until this slows - can't see any sensible retailer reducing unnecessarily! Yes - £10 more is a little above inflation but it is still miles cheaper than current 530 prices - which are £230 upwards to £299 at some OTT sellers!

But this is the cheapest my a mile NOW
If you could buy at pre Xmas prices NOW your comment would be valid but as it is - it is irrelevant drivel (perhaps an excuse to flame other posts as some people seem to like doing!)
If people didn't post the 'best price now' then this forum would dry up quickly - I mean it isn't a if anyone can benefit from knowing prices from 3 months ago is it!

As to functionality - you are correct and I never said otherwise. However, the look is different - easily corrected by installing a hacked firmware. The internal memory could prove an issue if people want to install MP3's or TomTom downloads but again - easily corrected by buying an SD card. I also said it was a good deal and so don't understand why you are attacking my entirely factual post.

As numark says, there is no reason to stop at a 530. It is easy to create the functionality, look and feel of a 540 by following the guides at IPMART forums. If you are willing to do this, you can get an even better deal by comparing the 520 to a 540.

bought one of these from TotalPDA after Xmas.....excellent piece of kit and as new.
After loading the latest software and maps, which are guaranteed, it does IQ Routes and Lane Guidance, which does make it in effect a 530. Only for less money.
After updating it will also take up to 32 GB SD card......thats all my iTunes on it as well and playing thru the car stereo thru FM Transmitter. Or extra maps if you need.
I know I would have been pretty ****** if I'd payed extra for a 530.
Well worth it.
