Thought it was time this got a re-post

The Toshiba DR17DT is a great value DVD Recorder with integrated Freeview tuner, HDMI connectivity with video upscaling and a coaxial digital output.

The easy to use DR17DT features a 7 day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) which lets you browse the coming week's schedules for all Freeview channels and also allows simple timer recording - just highlight a programme in the guide and, within a couple of clicks on the remote, your recording is scheduled and will start automatically. You can even record from external sources such as Sky or Sky+ boxes via the DR17DTs scart socket.

Not just a recorder but a fantastic player too, the Toshiba will upscale video to 1080p, 1080i or 720p via HDMI - for the sharpest and cleanest image on your HD ready television. Your DVDs and recordings will look better than ever before.

The DR17DT really is a high quality DVD recorder with a great feature count and superb performance.

Please note this product is factory graded by manufacturer qualified engineers and has a 1 year guarantee and a 7 day no quibble returns policy

No usb or memory card slot. Good price though.

Currently sat under my TV from the last time it was posted on here (same price at the same site about a month ago). Has its minor foibles, and not the greatest digital tuner in the world (I'm using an indoor, table-top kind of aerial though, you'd probably be perfectly fine with a roof one) but generally perfectly happy with it. Admittedly not tested many of the more advanced features yet though.

Dont waste your money buying a DVD recorder as they are rubbish. The HARD DRIVE recorders are far better.

Mad statement!
Are they better at recording stuff of Sky - which is what anyone whose got Sky would want to do?
Are they better for connecting up your camcorder to convert to DVD?
I'm getting one....

I've been trying to record onto DVD from my Hard drive recorder but no matter what or how hard I try....................:whistling:

Got one of these last time posted & happy with it. (I dont use the epg side of things - just playback & DVD recording from other sources.

can you buy a HDD one for this price? i dont think so. only major advantage is storage, not a problem if youve got a few dvd discs

if you ask me this is a bargain

Of course you can buy an HDD recorder for this price.

Got one, cheers. Just wanted to note that the manual for this player says it has chasing playback, which is a really nice feature (I have this on my Panasonic DVD recorder). Presumably chasing playback will work the same on the Toshiba, so it should let you watch, pause, rewind, etc., a program as it's being recorded (if you use a dvd-RAM disc -- all you have to do is hit "record", then hit "play" and you will be watching what has been recorded, so it's basically a couple of seconds behind live TV). It also lets you watch a program that has already been recorded on that disc while you record another program on the same disc (again, if using a RAM disc). Nice feature.

I've ordered one to pick up for monday. WIll this also UPSCALE the inbuilt FREEVIEW?

The item is now out of stock and it doesn't show online that they've pulled mine yet, so I'm hoping I actually get one. They had them several left when I ordered, but if they are disorganized or sold them to walk-in customers before they pulled orders that had already been made online, I'm out of luck.

Anyone get a despatch status yet?

The same seller is selling these on a popular auction site, and they have 10 available right now at the same price and postage, the auction number is 200334138420.

I'm hopeful they'll send the one I ordered over the weekend. I just checked and they are back in stock and apparently have 13 left, so they will probably pack and ship before long. This same model is sold by the same company through play.com for the same price, fyi, and you can use quidco for play.com.

Mine arrived this morning (though the status never changed on the order site).

On certain channels it will not go to the 16:9 aspect ratio. I have made sure all menus say this setting and the tv is set at that setting. The TV I'm using this with has freeview itself, and if I switch to the same channel to view through the tv itself, the 16:9 ratio is there, but when I then switch to the same channel to be tuned through this recorder, it will only do the smaller aspect ratio that doesn't fill the whole screen. I had seen a review that noted this problem on Amazon, but as only one person ever mentioned it I supposed/hoped that it was just his machine or that perhaps he didn't have the menus set to the correct setting.

Oddly enough, on some channels (like ITV) it only does this for the main show, while the commericals are full-screen. It doesn't do this on all channels.

Has anyone else with a widescreen tv had this problem, and were you able to fix it? If I can't fix it, this is basically a useless hunk of junk player that will go back, as it's incredibly annoying to try and watch a program that isn't filling the screen out.
