Cineworld are advertising the fact they ended up 'No. 1 Cinema Chain in 2010' by charging only £1 for a regular popcorn, 2/3 of the price at my local Cineworld. Offer only on for one week - don't think you need a voucher or anything.

Saw this in the metro this morning - it should be £1 all year around. They clearly can afford it.

heat !!! the cinema these days costs nearly as much as going on the drink !! .... well for some people i refuse to buy any of the pop corn/hotdogs/sweets etc !!!
#4
But at least this is fresh & hot popcorn.
#5
I wish everyone who attended cineworld boycotted buying their outrageously overpriced items. Seriously does anyone on hot deals buy at cineworld or take there own?
#6
I never buy stuff from Cineworld.
Asda is just next door to Cineworld I go to...

They usually search backpacks and things at our Cineworld to make sure this doesn't happen!

They don't have the right to search your property... refuse and cite the human rights act :-)

But they do have the right to refuse you entry if you fail to comply :P

Urgh... the rubbish posted on here. If they make it a condition of selling you a ticket that they can search your property, they have every right to do so!

But if no posters up at the queue/tills saying that, you can quite rightly tell them to get lost :)
#12
I guess its cheap compared to normal price but this stuff costs then pence to make. I went to cinema with my daughter, medium popcorn, medium drink and bag of sweets, £8.60 :O

Someone seems to know contract law ;)

Oh and the reason the prices are so high, is because cinemas literally make pennys on actual ticket sales, the food and drink is where they make their money.

O.O I've never seen bags being checked at Aberdeen cineworlds. But yeah, I never buy food there. Ridiculously overpriced.
#15
They would make more money if their prices were fairer, thats at all cinemas.
Also this 3d junk, £24 for 2 to watch a movie!

You can also swap £4.00 in Tescos Clubcard points online for a standard Cineworld cinema ticket (valid for about 6 months).

If you have Clubcard vouchers it's a good way to make the most of them.
#17
a quid is fair for fresh popcorn-I have an unlimited cineworld pass so go a lot,and Ive never seen anyone getting their bags searched-sounds counter productive to me to do such things.

Tuesdays is half price cinema tickets, so about £4 at my local one - cheaper than any other day!
#19
dont they make like 1000% profit on their popcorn or something stupid?

It's those people buying that outrageously priced stuff which means your ticket is the price it is. However high it seems, Cineworld make no money on it; all 3/4 big chains make literally all their profit at the concession stand.

I'm not sure it's fresh -- I saw them having it delivered in massive bags already popped ! What a waste of resources , delivering something thats' 50% air in a lorry! And it would probably taste better if it was fresh...It put me off buying it at the cinema

Orange Wednesday and this, should be very cheap! :)

But at least this is fresh & hot popcorn.!!!

Are u mad, this stuff stays in there till it is sold. I remember going there once and seeing insects inside the popcorn holder.
#24
Can someone on here confirm cineworld have the right to stop you bringing your own food in?
I am not a film buff but Ive never seen anyone stopped in the times I have been. If I was searched I would stop going alltogether.

This

went to a late screening about a year ago and saw them putting the popcorn into plastic bags that looked like clear bin liners. told thats how popcorn is stored until used the next day. it wasnt unclean or anything like that but dont see the appeal anymore

This guy is dead right 90% of cinema ticket value goes straight to movie company.....This is not to mention the fact that for years the cinema film reels were exported from aAmerica after they were finished with them so were mostly damaged and fadedby the time they were on our screens. Thank god for the digital age

Not quite right, oddly if you are a woman - they can't search your handbag because of 'feminine hygiene' products but I would say 90% of cinemas don't bother especially with a long queue.

Nope, I was listening to the bottom line from bbc radio 4 (good show btw) - 50% of the ticket value goes right to the movie industry and according to this guy he said that most of their revenue is from ticket sales not from the food/snacks.

We always stock up before going to our cineworld...
#29
£1 is 2/3 of its regular price?! is popcorn seriously £1.5 at your cinema?! It's like £5 at mine!!!
#30
Woot! This sounds like a great offer especially seeing as i literally got a unlimited pass this week. And yes our local does search bags but ONLY for recording equipment and HOT food (i.e. Mcdonalds). They allow 'cold snacks'.
#31
I can confirm this is genuine as i work for cineworld,
#32
The cinema ? No thanks !!!

For the two of us to get in would cost as much as a BluRay, and that's before being shafted for food / drink.
I can sit at home in a more conformable "seat"with a better picture, and way better sound system. Have a beer (or 3), eat what I want, and not have to endure the knuckle dragging halfwits who have the inability to go 2 hours or so without referring to their mobile phones.

I've had my bags taken from me at the old one at the beach, just shopping bags which they could easily see into. But I'm pretty sure that they can't search backpacks or handbags.

My sister used to work at Cineworld and it's true, the popcorn comes ready-popped and at the end of the day it is put into bags and stored, to then be re-heated the next day. It is most certainly not as 'fresh' as one would expect!
#37
Should always be this price as mentioned, both Cineworlds in Aberdeen let you bring in your own food & drink etc. as longs is not hot, this is what one girl told us anyway !

Cineworld have a strict NO FOOD AND DRINK policy. We reserve the right to refuse customers entry into the screens with food or drink bought outside the premises. All our cinemas display the necessary signage, advising customers of this policy.

As a food operator we offer a wide range of drinks and snacks to satisfy our customers but also protect our cinema furnishings and customers clothing. Not all movie-goers are considerate of others in their snack choices and we have needed to set clearer guidelines on what is appropriate.

This is straight off the cineworld website. So they can stop you going in.Wheter they can search you or not is another matter, or whether they can just stop the obvious. I did see a woman stopped who was taking a dozen children to a saturday morning viewing and had taken a tesco carrier bag full of snacks for the children. She was quite outraged that she could not take all that food in, but it did seem a bit too much to ask the staff to ignore, compared to the odd choccie and drink in a handbag!

Lol yeah but they're probably looking for H and booze!

Rippoff everywhere :
Tesco clubcard vouchers worth 4 will give you a ticket and it claims that it gives 3 times the value, can someone tell me which ticket costs £12 ? (if someone says central london then how many go there to watch ?)

Forget about the normal price but at £ 1 popcorn its good profit to them.

£7.90 for a popcorn and cola add 50p to make it large, I am sure 50p is what costs all for the large combo, I am with some who says boycott buying it at cineworld.
