Siberian reindeer steak legs, frozen 350g for £5.99. Thats Xmas dinner sorted or even leave some out for Rudolf on Christmas Eve.

Its another luxury food brought to you by LIdl - View luxury brouchure on the left of their site for more info.

GORDON RAMSAY'S REINDEER STEW Ingredients
Olive oil
200g smoked bacon lardons or pancetta
800g reindeer meat cut into chunks
1 turnip, peeled and sliced
1 small red onion, peeled and sliced
1 large bulb of garlic, peeled and sliced
1 carrot, peeled and sliced
2 tbsp cloudberries
2 tbsp blueberries
1-2 tbsp red wine vinegar
½ bottle red wine
20g of grated dark chocolate
salt and pepper
a handful of snow

1. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large non-stick pan. Once hot, add the bacon lardons and fry for 1-2 minutes. Add the reindeer chunks, season with salt and pepper and allow to colour.
2. Stir in the turnip, red onion, garlic and carrot and continue to heat for 4-5 minutes to lightly colour the vegetables, then stir in the cloudberries and blueberries.
3. Add the red wine vinegar to the pan and swirl to deglaze. Pour in the red wine, bring to the boil and allow to reduce for approximately 8-10 minutes or until syrupy.
4. Add a handful of snow (or half a cup of water), bring back to the boil and then continue to simmer for a further 8-10 minutes until thickened.
5. Grate in the dark chocolate, heat for a further minute until thickened and nicely glazed. Correct the seasoning accordingly and serve at once.

I believe the recession has hit lapland hard, and Santa is thinking of new ways to pay off the public debt and reduce staff.

Minging couldnt do it! Poor reindeer :(
#7
But but, how will Santa get to feed us greedy-whining-obese-ungrateful-obnoxious-violent-ignorant little western people with more corporate products?

Why poor reindeer and not poor turkey or poor chicken?

I don't like double standards with food - if you want to be a veggie go for it - but it means vegetables and not factory-made meat.

Personally, I love meat and reindeer is tasty.

Yeah, right. You will be saying there's no such thing as reindeer next, some people are bonkers. We already have Donner kebab, and that's a reindeer. Elves on the menu next year guys, in Santa's Elfy eating range.

It's £17.10 per Kg, for frozen meat! if you must have it, fine, I am not sentimental about it, but I would be devastated if I needed to stew meat that cost 17 quid a kilo!

A novelty, but certainly not a bargain.

If you want something to stew that's bit more novel, then on the same page, http://www.3d-zeitschrift.de/p/9imntwyADGKNR/Luxury_For_All.html there are two cuts of venison significantly cheaper, but like all game, usually not worth the money, especially when it's been frozen!

For a real bargain meat meal, Fresh Legs of lamb are £4.49 /kg at Tesco at the moment, bone it out and they will roast, fry, grill, stew, braise or whatever and probably go down a treat with most people, and far less umming and ahhing from some, for quarter the price!

I don't understand the reasoning here. Is this a good deal or not? where is it cheaper? Yes, lamb is cheaper because every shop has it. If someone posts a deal on beef, no one quotes prices for chicken or pork because its not relavant, even though its cheaper. I have voted hot on items i don't like when its a good price as its a good deal, hence the name of this site hotukdeals. Only other place i found it was here at £7.95 for 150g (over twice the price): - http://www.gribblesbutchers.co.uk/index.cfm/devon/Products.Details/product_id/194/referrer/froogle

Come on, support Santa this Christmas, and give the poor little lambs a break.

I dare say you could find Kobe Beef at 350 quid a kilo or far more if you looked, just it's a novelty too, rather than something which is going to change your eating habits. Although at least that will be delicious too, and probably far less contentious, but it's not something I would be buying either, I rather suspect a lot will agree, and Lidl will be reducing it after Xmas, so maybe that's when to try it!

Sorry, this isn't about Kobe beef or lamb, this is about reindeer. However, i did have a Kobe kebab the other day, and it was only £3, so i think your making it up. I'm guessing you couldn't find it cheaper then?
