This was reviewed in the Guardian recently...not very good review but it seems like the journalist is talking about other cheeses than the ones featured in this selection even though it's same price & same size..??

'Five cheeses, of which only the Long Clawson stilton passes muster. The two French entries (brie, St Paulin) are instantly forgettable, the cheddar trails a weird, almost edam-like aftertaste, while the wensleydale with (far too many) sweetened cranberries is disastrous – a crime against cows, if not humanity. The Lidl British Cheeseboard (£5.99, 470g) is far better, but my advice? Spend your cheese money at a deli counter.'

Never been that keen on Aldi cheeses, pretty poor to be honest so I would say this poor guardian review will probably be on the mark. Morrisons have a seasonal selection 550g at £4.99, tesco finest cheese selection 480g is only £6.00 and even the Waitrose perfect cheese board 490g is only £6.00 so it appears to me that Aldi are taking shoppers for a ride with their pricing no wonder profits are up and they can blow so much cash on prime time adverts with Jools Holland. Aldi is meant to be cheap and offers very little in comparison to the leading supermarkets but it's pricing is very similar. There is the equivalent of only 26p between this and waitrose and I know which I would rather buy!!!

I looked at the Morrisons one - very generic. Edam seasonal! - as a child I used to prefer to eat the wax on it!

Aha, the reviewer had the price and weight for the "specially selected luxury cheese selection" (https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/christmas-at-aldi/cheese-crackers/cheese/product-detail-page/ps/p/specially-selected-luxury-cheese-selection/) priced at £4.99, but was actually reviewing Aldi's regular one: https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/christmas-at-aldi/cheese-crackers/cheese/product-detail-page/ps/p/cheese-selection-pack-4/ priced at £3.49.

Yeah you sound like someone who has thoroughly tried the aldi range and I'll be surprised if you did like anything in there. I'm pretty sure there many more positive newspaper reviews and awards that aldi have won such as a DM review stating the camembert is much better than the waitrose one.

I don't know what your problem is with aldi but please stop the hate campaign, it's getting silly and a bit rude to the people that take the time to post things.

Got these last week. Only tried the blueberry and red leicester so far. The blueberry is really nice. A bit different to the usual cranberry!

Wow, yeah, for someone who finds Aldi so bad and would never shop there, Jase does seem to have bought every single item posted for Aldi and can comment specifically on how bad each was :p

Yummy yummy :) There's a few cheese deals on at the moment. Tesco has a half price cheese selection pack for £4 http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=278215608 till the 31st.

And there's the DELUXE Tête de Moine with Stand & Girolle £6.99 at Lidl: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/deluxe-t-te-de-moine-with-stand-girolle-6-99-lidl-2085819

I never read newspapers because they have done so much to discredit themselves over the years, and especially the Guardian, it lives down the in the gutter with the Daily Mail and the others. Reviewing food products seems almost as completely pointless as reviewing films and books when one person gives their own subjective view as if it applies to the whole world. I find it amusing how often the popularity of things goes completely against what these critics say.

the Stilton got a decent review.... it's the rest that's questionable. Are they the same as those in the waitrose selection?

its as cheap to go to a deli and buy actual decent cheese from a proper selection that you can try and then choose rather than a selection thrown together by somebody based on availability and profit margins.

You don't understand, it's literally this on every aldi deal and most other supermarket posts he will say something bad about aldi! Lol.

Of course he can express his opinion, I'm expressing mine too. It's just a bit unfair on everyone who posts imo and obviously anyone can be critical on a post, I just get a hate campaign vibe from his posts. The longer you are here the more you will notice and I'm not the only one who has noticed. ;)

It might be just me but I prefer Lidl when it comes to cheese. You would think they would be very similar but the stuff I buy seems better than Aldi's version. When it comes to actual cheese boards I have never really seen the point. We have got cheddar in the fridge all year round so have most people. I like to buy a couple of my favourites and a couple of the Mrs favourites and leave it at that.
