Most home automation remote lighting costs an amr and a leg, 1000s of pounds, i found this little gem for the price of a normal switch and i worked it from my sky remote. it dims, switchs on and off and has soft start lighting, very posh and elegant. I control all my lighting from the sofa now. Starts at 11.50 for one switch/gang

i have my spots lights, my lamps and also my plants lighting all controlled by the remote. I simply connect my plants lighting to a 5A point. All costs 15 quid, when i had the quote from the home automation company, they quoted 1200+VAT

(P.S. some folks are reporting B&Q doing these for £5 in the clearance, thats fully automated remote control home dimmer for less than the price of a normal white switch!)

Remote Control and Touch - Chrome
Master Dimmers
40w - 250w, 400w or 600w

A revolutionary new range of touch and remote control dimmer switches.

A touch sensitive button in the centre of the plate and a tiny lens in the centre of the button
so as to not spoil the overall look of the product.

You can dim the lights using touch control or remotely .
The master dimmer switches are one way but can be used in conjunction with slave units
in a multi-way circuit (including intermediate and 2 way)
so that the lights can be dimmed from more than one location.

In this type of circuit you should use one master dimmer and any number of slave units
with three wires directly connecting each switch (as is usual in a 2 way circuit).

The low-priced slave units are not dimmer switches
and cannot be used on their own without a master dimmer.

Using trailing edge technology, they can be used for mains or low voltage lighting.
Remote control sold seperately
Like the IQ dimmers it also has a soft start to extend lamp life and overload protection with automatic reset.
In learning mode, it can be taught any button of most existing infra-red remote controllers.
(Full clear instructions with diagrams are included with the product)

We've got one of these the only downside, you can't use energy efficient bulbs!
#3
but u cant use energy efficient bulbs with any form of dimmer, even normal manual dimmer.
#4
Cannot see anything on the item that says you can use a Sky remote as a dimmer!!

most existing remote means sky, video, hifi, etc basically most remotes. mine is working off sky, and also tested my denon remote and that worked fine.

you can train any remote for these, just use a button that wont affect anything. i used to use one of the coloured teletext buttons.

look great in all honesty - might get one for the lounge

These are great.
Yesterday i found a brass effect one in B&Q on clearance at £5. It's a 1 way 400w dimmable/touch, which i easily installed and programmed in to my Logitech Harmony. (though you can use any ir remote). It operates my 4 wall lights perfectly.
Had to go back today to pick up another for a friend, and i'm sure this clearance is nationwide, but has been on for a couple of months now.

akasmiler, dont make my initial mistake, i got initially the standard one which was a quid or so cheaper but didnt have soft start or soft switch off and didnt do low voltage spots, get the premium one which does all and its only a pound more expensive.

cool will have a look....by the way B&Q are a rip off for these things usually, go to their sister company screwfix for identical/near identical products

i bought a remote dimmer switch for £12.99 from screwfix a while ago, exact same thing /same make in B&W was £29.99 or £39.99......i too programme it with the harmony.....ive got a seperate remote too

may have a look

ive set mine up on the harmony for all profiles so i can dim, switch off /on no matter what im watch - xbox, tv, etc

To be honest i didn't look for any others.
I found the 2 i got in different places in the store. It was the Weymouth branch and they had a clearance bin at each end of the lighting isle, which both were full of different switches and sockets.

The barcode for the polished brass one is 5021575540314.

The one i got today, i ran through the self-serve tills and it came up with a mesage asking if £5 was the correct price. Thus means it is a head office reduction (i.e nationwide price), but some stores may have reduced them further!

wow, i am going to B&Q tomorrow! i think i am going to remote all my rooms, sitting in the bed and remote dimming the room lights ;)
#15
its amazing, peope voting cold on something thats so functional yet nothing comes close to its price. Unless u can come up with a similar home automation solution remotely similar for anywhere near this price then why vote cold.

£19.20 with VAT and del!

We got ours from Ebay a couple of years ago I think it was about £10/12.

It doesnt say 11.50 delivered, you can simply pop into any store and pick up one, or else if you order over a certain amount its free delivery. I ll edit the title to add VAT just for you.
