D40 is a Nikon, did you mean 40D?

This doesn't work with the 40D.

Just ordered one for my new 50D

Hope it works!

Ordered similar one from DealExtreme for my Canon 400D - it's taken over 3 weeks and counting for delivery so far (I had a dispatch note on Sat tho...). Maybe this is normal - not used Dealextreme before. If it shows up tho, bargain :)

Hot from me.....I have a genuine Canon version, but this will be great to butcher and extend with some extra wire.....wouldn't want to damage an expensive one, but I can afford to experiment for £3.50

I have this exact item from DX - and I have a Canon 40D - it works.

Fantastic for the money - and for doing shots on a tripod without any camera shake.

Just seen post above mine!

Doh! but someone said on the actual deal page it works fine with 40D? so surely 50D will be same?
#8
Yes, 50D will be fine. Canon's remote shutter has not changed in eons - hence the compatibility list which extends back over 10 years of SLR's and DSLR's.

I've got a 350D, hope it works with this

I don't think it will work in a 350D - different connector on the lower-end DSLR's.

On the other hand, you can use the cheap IR wireless remote shutters available on DX (these do not work on the xxD line).

You will want this one for the 350D:

Sorry what does this do exactly - close the camera lens using a remote? If so, that's just plain lazy!

Not true. On my original Digital Rebel (UK name 300D I think) it had a jack style connector, on my 40D it's like this one. I guess it's the same on the 50D as the 40D.

 Its main use is so you can trigger the camera without shaking it.

Deal Extreme are very good, never had a problem. Delivery is a little slow though. Just be patient, the stuff is coming from Hong Kong.

If doing low light shots, long exposures or some macro work then this is essential and not being lazy. it also helps if you're taking child portraits so you can get kids attention easier

I was only going off DX's description!

Thanks for the advice, I've cancelled and re-ordered this

Mine did arrive from Dealextreme - just in case anyone's reading this old thread...

Mine arrived too, only they sent the wrong item. I've got one with a small 3.5mm headphone style jack on the end, rather than the fatter, rounder jack needed for Canon models. This definitely won't work for the 40D, don't know what models it is compatible with though.
