From what I have heard the gold edition will get an update, the standard version won't.

Keep your eyes open! The game was release few month ago, this is a preorder for the Platinum! Some ppl don't want so have those Platinum covers in their collection, so don't choose this if you dislike them.

The original version seems to be like gold dust - none in stock anywhere. I am quite happy with whatever edition this is, as it comes with the DLC and will be supporting Move controls.

I'll be selling my still sealed copy of the original to help pay for this.

Cheers Andy ;)

I thought, like Heavy Rain, you could download a patch instead of shelling out for the Move Compatible version?

You can, but the patch will only work on the Gold Edition, not the standard - bit of a kick in the teeth really (typical Capcom?)
#11
Thanks heat added. Just ordered this and put my standard copy on ebay.
#12
Great! I picked up a copy of the original version a few weeks back, to be ready for Move support. i assumed that all versions would get the update, but apparently not..

What a waste!

During E3 2010, a Capcom representative demonstrating the PlayStation Move functions confirmed that an upcoming patch would make all versions of the game compatible once PlayStation Move is released.[citation needed]

Thanks for the heads up. I pre-ordered and then cancelled. I'd rather sniff around for an original gold edition.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/07/26/resident-evil-5-move-support-will-only-work-with-gold-edition/

Tempted myself, not keen on platinum games but not likely to get this new anywhere (I've tried before) second hand is likely to have had the dlc used before.
#17
hot deal
wanted this but after playing through it 5 times to get the platinum i cant bring myself to play this again
#18
Second hand copies of RE5: Gold Edition will have no effect on the PS3 version for all the DLC is on the disc.
Bear in mind that when you first boot up the game it requires ~6GB install to the HDD - so make a sandwich before you shoot the infected people or something.

However it is to my understanding that the Xbox 360 version contains a code in the box to redeem all the DLC from the marketplace.
I do not know how much space is required to download all the DLC to the Xbox HDD.

A Capcom rep from Comic-Con 2010 states that a free title update to provide move support will be available to those who own the Gold Edition, no mention for owners of the original version however that does not necessarily mean it won't be (I hope it will!).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSwG3uJFGd0
Refer to the 5 minute mark.

Hot deal, if you were to buy a new/pre-owned copy of the original RE5 and factor in the DLC after you would be paying much more than this.

Happy gaming,
Scar

how sure are you this will be platinum? it says nothing about it on the site...does seem like it will be tho
#20
very much doubt re5 original owners will be left cold as the gold edition DLC is basically 2 short campaigns and a multiplayer mode plus some additional models - on ps3 at least you do not need to register this and nothing is changed with the basic game itself. given that any move patches would affect the engine there is no reason the DLC release should be any diffrent from t'basic game

i gots me the gold from grainger games new for £17 and love it, but theres no way in hell a patch for such for move would not also be compatible with t'basic game

Are people really pathetic that they care if something says platinum? what if you just never got around to the game and by the time its released its pretty much only available in platinum. Would you really not buy it and look at pre owned places lmao. Get a life, makes no difference, most my games arent even in their damn cases.
#22
No cashback on preorders lads.

Capcom are scamming b******s, why would anyone buy the dlc when it's cheaper to re-buy the game. If you've bought the dlc you then find you won't be refunded for your purchases as you now won't get Move support. Total joke.

It's things like this that makes me glad that Spyborgs was a costly flop for them.
#23
@schutz

Got a life thanks. I'm big on collecting games, especially Resident Evil stuff. So I don't wanna see some **** 'PLATINUM' text covering the original artwork. Besides, Platinum/Classic games don't hold any value. I'd like to make some money by caring about the state of what my games are in and selling them later. Call me a geek or whatever, but I'll be the last one laughing when I decide to sell all my pristine condition games to some high paying collector. Peace out.

Taken from thesixthaxis.com;

"In other zombie news, Sony have reminded PlayStation owners that only Resi 5 Gold will support Move – those of us with standard Resident Evilness will miss out:

‘If you already own a copy of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition for your PS3, you’ll be able to download a free patch close to the launch of the PlayStation Move (September 19th in North America) to enable the new motion-control scheme”

‘This will only work with RE5 copies labeled “Gold Edition” – the original version of RE5 won’t be receiving the patch, for technical reasons.”

hope this clears up the will it/won't it debate.

I voted hot, I'm not keen on platinum covers but if they are cheaper what the hell.
#25
Looks like its been confirmed:

http://www.incgamers.com/News/24228/move-support-only-for-gold-edition-of-resi-evil-5

The original version will NOT get the update for "technical reasons".. Looks like I had better sell my copy whilst I can, and pick up the gold version...
#26
I have the steel box version... No idea if that means Ill be getting an update or not!
#27
So I have the original and have completed the game.

Is it worth getting the Gold edition and what is so good about move support?

What the hell is move support (will google it now)?
#28
A short film on Move and RE5.

I didn't have time from RE5 when it was released and deliberately didn't buy/play it once it was announced that it would support "Move".

If anyone has ever played RE4 on the Wii, you will know that with motion controls, the game is something special.. Infact, I would go as far to say that RE4 on the Wii is certainly in my top 5 games of all time, if not the top 3.. I have never felt so engaged in a game!

RE5 with Move support could similarly be something special, but it could (and I expect) it to be a bit of a lemon.. But it should not be overlooked.

I will now sell the RE5 copy I bought and will add RE5:Gold Edition to my Pre-order with ShopTo.. Looks like September is going to be an expensive month :)
#30
I am willing to give MOVE a try rather than just dismiss it but for me it is all about the games and no I don't want to run like an idiot in some sport game. So for me the only games that interest me with Move are RE5, Dead space extraction and tigger woods. The sorcery game looks good but will wait for a review.

Resident Evil 4 is/was a far superior game to 5, it revolutionised the genre whereas 5 was just a substandard copy of 4. Adding motion controls to this will not solve any of this games' flaws, but probably will as you say help to "emerge" you in the game. Move support could be good and could be pointless, just look at all the Wii's gamecube remakes with motion controls. Some offer a better experience ie. Pikmin, some water down the game and are worse than standard controls i.e Mario Tennis.

I hear you and agree with what you say.. But for £15, its got to be a worth a punt.. I am not expecting it to feature in my top 10 list, but I am hopeful that Move controls will add something to the game.

I sent ShopTo an email about what edition this game will be, and here was his reply:

Hello,

This will be an original PS3 item from what we have been informed.

I've gone ahead and pre-ordered. If its not what they say it is, then it'll either be returned or flogged on eBay.

This would be the Gold Edition, which is not the Platinum one.

I don't know how "Hoedi" knows that this will be the platinum one...

Also at choices uk now, costs a quid or two more but has the same graphic as shopto.net.
Personally I find the concept of a "Resident Evil 5 gold edition: Platinum version" very confusing.
#36
Can you still play this particular game with the Sixaxis controller or will you have to have the MOVE controllers?

You can still play with a regular controller - the patch will allow optional Move controls.
#38
Just read a review for Resident Evil 5 using Move. Very encouraging and the person said that targeting and melee was easier.

So I may actually change my mind on Move from neutral to positive especially with the amount of games in the pipeline (Dead Space:Extraction, Killzone 3).
#39
I believe this will be the cover, note the blue bit ... I assume this is the "move compatible" logo.
